Aggie Bats Awaken To Lead Sweep Of UHBy KEVIN COFFEY Assistant Sports Editor

The bats of the Texas Aggie baseball team awoke from a deep sleep and combined with some tough pitching to embarrass the University of Houston Cougars in a weekend series.

The Aggies won all three games of the Southwest Conference baseball action and coupled with the rainout of the Texas-SMU doubleheader, moved within two games of the league leading Longhorns.

Houston helped the A&M cause by committing 12 errors in the series along with four wild pitches and four pass balls.

In their first game of Friday’s doubleheader, A&M’s 14-1 victory was never in doubt. The Aggies

jumped to a five-run lead in the first inning which was more than enough for A&M righthander Bobby Wittkamp.

Wittkamp struck out eight while walking five enroute to his fifth win without a loss.

Friday’s second game, played under perfect baseball weather, started the same for the Aggies.

A&M jumped on losing pitcher Johnny Hatcher for one run in the first and second before exploding for five in the fourth.

Aggie pitcher Bobby Falcon meanwhile was having control problems but the Coogs could not manage a rally. Falcon finished with 13 strikeouts in the ball game to run his season total to 71 in 40% innings but walked 12 on the way to his fourth confer

ence win.Aggie first baseman Paul Mil

ler, Hacker, Bate and David Bux- kamper each had two hits for the Aggies with Hacker grabbing two RBPs with a fourth inning home run, his first of the season.

Saturday’s action was threatened by rain showers throughout the contest.

A&M scored in the first inning again when starter and loser Leror Othold walked Miller,

struck out Hacker before Bate doubled to plate Miller. Jim Brat- sen singled Bate to third and scored on a UH throwing error.

The Ags padded their lead in the second as Miller beat out an infield hit, advanced to third on a Hacker single and scored on third baseman Tommy Kaiser’s error.

A&M had one more big inning, scoring five runs in the fourth. Hacker doubled and scored on

Bate’s single to left. Frazier and Raymer walked to load the bases. Mike Schroeder doubled home Bate and Frazier and Buxkamper knocked in two more with a single to right.

Binks was in jams throughout the game having retired the side in order in only the first and eighth innings. He struck out two in 8% innings, walking four and giving up nine base hits. Jim Juhl recorded the save for the

Aggies as he retired the final two batters of th® game.

A&M is now 14-0 at Kyle Field with a 18-5 season’s mark.

The Aggies travel to Waco to face the Baylor Bears in another SWC series Friday and Saturday before meeting Texas here on April 27-28.

why does a man join Maryknoll? There are probably as many answers as there are individual Maryknoll priests and Brothers. Some men are deeply moved when they hear of babies dying in their mother's arms because of hunger or disease. Others are distressed by the growing antag onism and separation between the rich and the poor nations. More are concerned about the great injustices that have been inflicted upon the poor by those who possess wealth

and power to an excessive degree. Others look to learn from peoples who have grown up with a different mentality than that which is theirs. All feel that the only solution to the crises that threaten to split men asunder is the love of God as shown in the life of His Son, Jesus Christ. This love of God urges men to go forward and be missioners so men can love one another. What could be your reason for joining Maryknoll?

If you keep saying you want to do somethingwith your life - here’s your chance to prove it
