We are in unprecedented times in 2020, with the global pandemic grinding most of our activities to a halt. As we slowed down our operations in late March, we remind ourselves that the health and safety of our clients is of the utmost importance. Our office will remain closed for the time being, as we monitor the re-opening of other commerce in the state to see if any COVID-19 outbreaks occur. Special Olympics Michigan remains on hold, as it awaits direction from their international parent. As a result, most of our other activities will remain on hold. We plan to continue with our Annual Golf Outing in August. Please see the flyer in the newsletter and start making your plans to support. This year will be different, and what that means is still under development, but planning is well underway and we are hopeful that we will be able to hold the event as scheduled. Please stay safe, stay home, and following the guidance from the CDC and the State of Michigan. We want all of you to stay healthy, and we hope to resume activities in the near future. Happy 4
th of July!
Regards, Dennis Glinski

Some Summer FUN Ideas!
With many camps being closed and events being canceled this summer, here are some ideas of fun things to do! Let’s get moving!! Have you gone for a walk through your neighborhood and come across an obstacle course? Kids and adults of ages have really been enjoying these! All you need is some time and chalk. Here is a link with an ex-ample of an obstacle course you can make at https://playtivities.com/sidewalk-obstacle-course/
Everyone needs some downtime and here are a few videos to help relax. Go Noodle: Bring It Down https://bit.ly/2xu07yQ Go Noodle: On and Off https://bit.ly/2RNoSg5 Go Noodle: Unwind https://bit.ly/2XG7FJr I realize we’re all probably a bit tired of staring at screens but ... there are some pretty awesome adventures just waiting for you and here a couple. Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium – they have live cameras on several exhibits, plus check out the virtual zoo and see when the animals are fed! The times are posted under the exhibits on the virtual zoo page. https://bronxzoo.com/virtual-zoo/live-cams National Zoo – check out some of the animals via webcam! There are also some activities available to download. https://nationalzoo.si.edu/webcams Camp Wonderopolis – offers several virtual camps for free for all ages! http://camp.wonderopolis.org/ Mo Willems – The Kennedy Center has teamed up with author Mo Willems (one of his most popular books is Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus) and Mo spends time teaching his viewers how to draw different characters! This link takes you right to the page that has several activities that are all on YouTube. https://www.kennedy-center.org/education/mo-willems/
Varsity Tutors – they offer all kinds of virtual summer camps, most are free. The link below is for a Special Education cooking class for those in grades 9-12. This class is free and starts in July.

Check with your favorite summer camp and/or community center and see if they are offering a virtual option!

The Advocates at The Arc Downriver would really like to offer presentations and trainings to self-advocates, family members, education staff, agency staff and community members, but we simply do not have the funds to do so. The trainings/presentations would be on topics that relate to education (IEPs, suspensions, behavior interventions, etc.), independent living (how to obtain housing, recreation, access community supports, etc.), health issues (CPR Training, seizure training, etc.) and more! Lori, Linda and Kara would love to be able to share some of their knowledge, answer your questions and provide support.
Please consider donating! If you would like to support this endeavor through a donation, please write for ADVOCACY Trainings in the memo line of your check and mail it to: The Arc Downriver, 1028 Oak Street, Wyandotte, MI 48192. Thank You!
