The A B Cs of Lab Safety
General lab safety procedures
AwarenessBe alert to
unsafe conditions and actions.
Call attention to them so corrections can be made.
Don’t eat, drink, or chew gum in the lab or science classroom (do you REALLY want those chemicals in your mouth?).
Never use your mouth to pipette anything.
Never taste or sniff anything unless instructed to do so by your teacher.
Know where emergency exits, eye wash station, and emergency buttons are.
Don’t wait for me if chemicals splash into someone’s eyes…. Get them to the eye wash station NOW!!!!
Body bump Be mindful of your
body movements. Watch those
around you. You don’t want to
bump into somebody or have them bump into you.
Horseplay, pushing and shoving are not appropriate ANYWHERE!!!
