Dear Parents & Caregivers
With beautiful Spring days, we are approaching the end of
Term 4 at Harrington Park Public School.
Mrs Khandharixay is well on the way to having everything
organised for our 2018 Kindergarten Orientation. We
already have five classes of students enrolled. Parents, if you
have not enrolled your child for next year, or know other
families in the community who have not done so, please
contact the office before Friday so that your child is included in
our numbers. Harrington Park is a growing school, and having
accurate figures helps us prepare not just for our Kindergarten
students, but teacher and class placement for other years as
well.
Each afternoon, as much as possible, I try to stand at or near
the bike racks and say goodbye to our students as they go.
While some students need reminders to walk their bikes and
scooters out of the grounds, most are very good at following
our rules. I am concerned about two aspects of safety of these
students. An increasing number of young students (K-2) are
riding their scooters and bikes to school. This is not a problem
IF they are accompanied by an adult. Our handbook clearly
states that students younger than ten, should not be riding
home unaccompanied. Also, we have had reports from our
community regarding ‘near misses’ of students on their
scooters. If your child travels to and from school by
bike/scooter can parents please talk to them about safe
behaviours and expectations?
Mr King is enjoying some Long Service Leave this week and
Mrs Essex is filling in as Deputy with Mr Guider taking her
class as was communicated to parents through 4E’s class dojo.
I hope everyone enjoys their holidays and we look forward to
seeing everyone safe and well in Term 4.
Best regards
Kelly Paton
Principal
GENERAL NEWS
Kindergarten Orientation Class of 2018
The Kindergarten Orientation program will be held in Term 4. The dates scheduled are Wednesday 25th October, Wednesday 1st November and Wednesday
8th November. We will commence at 9:10am and finish at approximately 10:15am. During our first session, parents are encouraged to attend the morning tea.
This is a great opportunity for new parents to meet and chat. During our second and third session we will have a range of speakers present relevant information to parents including
school directions, behaviour expectations, Best Start assessments, attendance requirements, P & C association and before and after school care. We are very much looking forward to
meeting parents and our new Kindergarten students.
Camp Australia For parents of those students of our school who currently attend the After School Care
program run by Camp Australia, please note that any alteration or variation to your booking, must be communicated directly to Camp Australia. Their number to contact regarding any

Boys State Cricket Knockout
Last Thursday, Harrington Park boys’ cricket team played Cooerwull Public School in round four of the
State Knockout competition at Lithgow.
In the very chilly conditions, Harrington Park fielded first. With some very tight bowling from Matthew
B, Jake S and a hat trick from Haydon C, we were able to keep Cooerwull Public School to 92 runs from
25 overs. Harrington Park started strongly with the bat and was cruising along until our aggressive
batting brought us undone, and we dropped three quick wickets. Jake S and Matthew B steadied the
ship and helped us reach 96 runs in the 19th over. Jake S top scored with 40 not out.
An outstanding effort from the whole team. We wish them well in round 5!

6B ESSENTIAL ENERGY
This week 6B have been learning about
essential energy.
As part of their learning, they were required to design, make and test a
water wheel that performs the job of lifting an object with the least amount of
energy required.
As you can see there were some very innovative ideas applied to this task.
Macarthur Aboriginal Kids
Last Monday, 10 Aboriginal students from Harrington Park Public School along with students
from neighbouring schools spent the day at Mount Annan Botanic Garden being immersed in
Aboriginal culture.
The day started with a special Acknowledgement of
Country and performances from Elizabeth Macarthur High
School students. The students were put into groups and
then participated in activities such as gunyah building, tool
and weapon use and bush food tasting and identification.
The students met lots of students from other schools and
had an enjoyable day.
Lost Property
Our lost Property box is burgeoning with misplaced clothing. The Lost Property box is located just outside our school hall, please feel free to look to see if your child’s misplaced property can be found.
We also have a number of glasses, keys, watches, wallets, purses and jewellery held in the
school’s office. Please phone or call in to the office to claim ownership.

MEDIA RELEASE
IT’S FAMILY FUN DAY AT PARLIAMENT THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
GHOSTS OF OUR COLONIAL PAST Member for Camden Chris Patterson today encouraged the Camden community to attend the annual Parliament of New South Wales’ Family Fun Day during the upcoming school holidays on Friday 6 October.
Mr Patterson said the Parliament’s Family Fun Day was a fantastic way for parents, grandparents and carers to entertain children during the school holidays and learn about how Australia’s oldest Parliament works.
“Family Fun Day on October 6 opens sections of the Parliament not normally open to the public, and is a fantastic way for children and adults to see how the Parliament works from behind the scenes,” Mr Patterson said.
The theme of this year’s event is Ghosts of Our Colonial Past with some very special ‘ghosts’ from the Parliament engaging and entertaining visitors with intriguing stories throughout the historic rooms of the over 200 year old building.
Now in its eighth year Family Fun Day will be as unique, entertaining and as fun as it has been in past years. The event is renowned for its highly entertaining theatrical re-enactments.
“Children and adults can visit the Legislative Chambers and take their seat on the benches,” Mr Patterson said.
“Other highlights on the day include arts and crafts, story-telling, role plays, guessing competition, children’s trail, the Parliament’s 1967 referendum display and the opportunity to visit areas rarely open to the public.
“I encourage everyone to come along to the Parliament for Family Fun Day, it’s a unique opportunity for the whole family to learn a little more about Australia’s oldest parliament and its history,” Mr Patterson said.
