A nother year in the Libraries has
flown by and Christmas is fast
approaching. Much to celebrate this
year. Corinna Carew at Eketahuna Library
passed her Level 6 Diploma in Library and
Information Studies, and Certificate in
Literature & Library Services for Children &
Young People. We are all very proud of her
achievement.
Eketahuna Library had a refit and new layout
… Hope you are all enjoying that. Dannevirke
Branch was re-carpeted and again a new
layout was put in place to better reflect the
changing use of Libraries.
Pahiatua Library is in the midst of a facelift
and toilets for our Library users are now
available. I know the community of Pahiatua
will appreciate this. The upgrade should be
completed in the new year.
Planning is underway for the changes to the
Woodville Library. As they say in the cheese
world… good things take time. And we are
taking the time to try to plan out the changes
to this building to benefit the community and
staff and to earthquake strengthen this
building at the same time. Watch this space…
Over the year I have filled in behind the
counter at most of the branches and I always
enjoy getting to know many of you from the
different towns. Merry Christmas to you all
from all of us here behind the counters at
your Libraries.

Much comings and goings at Dannevirke Library. Library Assistant Tamara Jones has
transferred from the library and into a new role at the council building. So she is gone
but not really gone.. Tamara was with us for almost 3 years and her quirky sense of
humour will be much missed by library staff and users like. We wish Tam all the best in
her new role in the Records Department.
Replacing Tamara is Alice Leadbetter. Alice is a local lady, who attended Dannevirke South School and Dannevirke High School. Alice did a Bachelor of Arts at Massey University before moving to Taupo where she worked at the library and museum. She has a passion for travel and in 2013, set off to Ghana for two months to volunteer at an orphanage and then onto London, England, working for two years before returning to New Zealand. Alice has a love for animals, cooking, swimming and reading, and is very excited to have joined the Dannevirke Library team.
We also have a new addition at Woodville Library. Heather McVeagh replaces Raewyn
Murray who retired earlier this year. Heather is really happy to be joining the Wood-
ville Library/Service Centre, and to be part of the Tararua District library team. She has
a love of books and a particular interest in children and young adult literature. Heather
was with the National Library in Palmerston North for the past 12 years, and prior to
that was a teacher. She is interested in conservation - particularly native trees and
shrubs, and tramping. Heather aims to do at least one of the major walks each year.
Last year was the Kepler Track, and this year the Hump Ridge.
T he libraries are enriched by having the services of many willing volunteers. These wonderful people
willingly give up their free time to shelve, mend books, tidy and help us with children’s programmes. Library staff are deeply appreciative and the following quote sums up the volunteer spirit.

At Dannevirke Library, our Book Club for 8-12 year olds is humming along with a very enthusiastic bunch of young ones. We meet every fortnight during term time, Mondays at 4pm. Come along and join in.

We learnt here at Pahiatua during our last public survey that the library needed a few renovations. Well all good things come to those who wait. .. We now have a new automatic door to the entrance of the library and an automatic light to the entrance of our public toilets. We also have a new disabled/parent room with a built in change table for infants. Our painting preparation is underway & all radiators have been removed to allow for new air-conditioning installation.
We love being a link within our community for information of all kinds. Do you need help accessing government agency websites? Creating a CV? Setting up an email address or Facebook account? Finding an obituary in a newspaper or just locating some study references? These are a few things that we help people with every day.
Never be too shy to ask our friendly team of library staff for a bit of assistance, as we are always ready & willing to help!

Little Ears is a free half hour early literacy session for pre-schoolers that is run
during Term Time. Parents or caregivers, bring your little one’s along to listen to stories, sing songs, and sometimes do other activities.
Dannevirke Library – every Monday, 9.30am
Pahiatua Library – every Tuesday, 2pm Woodville Library - every Wednesday, 2pm
