The Thames Watershed & Regionlies within the transition zone ofthe Carolinian Life Zone orSouthern Mixed Deciduous Forestto the south, and the Lower GreatLakes - St. Lawrence Forest to thenorth.The diversity of plant species isextremely high. Common foresttrees include sugar maple,American beech, red oak,basswood and white ash. Lesscommon, southerly speciesinclude black walnut, butternut,black cherry and sycamore.This map illustrates thedistribution of woodlots across theLower Thames ValleyConservation Authority watershedand the percent forest cover bysubwatershed.The subwatersheds are colour-coded according to the range ofpercent forest cover they possess.The ranges (e.g. percentbreakdown) were taken fromWatershed Reporting: ImprovingPublic Access to Information(Conservation Ontario et al.2003).The area of forest cover wasdivided by the area of thesubwatershed to determinepercent forest cover.
