Welcome back! I hope you have been
enjoying the book and the study so far.
Ice BreakerLets go around the room and introduce
ourselves again. One person starts by
introducing herself, choosing a nickname
that begins with the same letter as her
first name, and telling the group why she
selected that nickname. Move around the
circle by the next person first repeating the
nicknames of those before him, and thenadding his own at the end.
Here's an example: Her name is Crazy
Carla, she's Funny Fan, she's Mellow
Melanie, and my name is Jazzy Jo (because
I love music and used to play the clarinet
in a jazz band).
Who can recap what we talked about last
week?
Our Bible memory verse for the study is
Psalm 139:14. Who has memorized it?
What does this verse mean?
Review ReadingAssignment fromLast Week
Chapter 1: Heart
Chapter 2: Space
Activity Brainstorm ways we canpractice putting God first (add to the
list from page 16 & 17 in our book).
Think of some tips we can all
do.some ways our temperature
toward God could become more hot.
Discussion Discuss your list and
ideas with the group.

Being the Hands & Feet of Jesus
Last week we also talked about being the
hands and feet of Jesus.
It is important to remember that no body
is perfectJesus was, and is, the only
perfect person to live. We will all makemistakes and we cant beat ourselves up
for not feeling like we are good enough.
God has given us everything we need to
live the lives he created us for.
The Bible says that we are saved and are
going to heaven forever by believing and
putting our trust in Jesus. We arent saved
by being good or doing good things. But,
the Bible also says that as Christians who
are saved we will WANT to do good things.
We will want to help those people that
God loves, we will love people that God
loves and we will work to accomplish
Gods plans during our time on earth.
So doing good things, does a couple of
things:
It demonstrates our love for God and
the result of being saved.
It helps take our focus off of ourselves
and puts it on other people. Just as
Jesus came to serve and not be served,
we are to do the same and serve/help
others.
Kids Making A Difference
Here are a few stories of kids making a
difference*, using their unique skills and
circumstances.
I am hoping and praying that this group of
girls will be leaders among our friends to
show Gods love and make a difference in
our schools, neighborhoods and
communities.
Connecting Through Music
Abigail Lupi, Age 10,
Stockholm, NJLots of children like to put on shows. Few
are as enterprising as Abigail. She
performed her first musical revue three
years ago at an assisted-living center, in
honor of her great-grandmothers 100th
birthday. Thats when I discovered many
of the elderly didnt have visitors, she
says. Abigail figured she could remedy that
by inviting friends to perform with her atassisted-living residences, nursing homes,
and childrens hospitals throughout the
state. Today, CareGirlz, Abigails ensemble
of 13 girls ages 6 to 13, has a repertoire of
more than 90 Broadway and pop songs,
and theyve performed in 20 different
locales so far. I like to brighten up
peoples days and help them have a fun
time, says Abigail. If I do my best, theyllhave a smile on their faces by the end.

Hugs for Haiti
Blare Gooch, Age 13, Grand Rapids, MI
Two days after the devastating January
2010 earthquake in Haiti, Blare saw a little
boy crying in a pile of rubble on a
newscast. The story brought him to tears.
The next day, still thinking about what hed
seen, Blare remembered the teddy bearthat always comforted him. Then I
thought, We could start a drive for Haiti,
says Blare. At school, his teachers let him
announce his plan over the PA system and
ask other kids to donate bears. Soon a
local TV and radio station got wind, and,
via Facebook, other schools joined in. The
result? Blares Bears for Haiti gave 25,000
teddy bears to the island nation and about22,000 more to nonprofits. This year
Blares group will collect toys and school
supplies, too. Blares advice to other kids is
simple. It doesnt really matter how small
or old you are, he says. If youre young
and think you cant make a big difference
in the world, well, you actually can.
Spreading World Peace,
One Blanket at a Time
Charlie Coons, Age 13
Simi Valley, CA
In 2008 Charlie Coonss big brother
volunteered at an orphanage in Jordan, and
he returned with stories about dirt floors,
children who had no shoes, and cold, cold
nights. Charlie, 11 at the time, was so
affected by this, she immediately decided to
send them fleece blankets, creating one
from a kit and inviting friends to make some,
too. Soon the sixth-graders and other
volunteers in her town had crafted 50
blankets to ship. The orphanage sent back a
photo of a child with one of the gifts. Ithought, Oh my gosh, I made that blanket
and now it s helping someone, Charlie
says. Still, she was pumped to do more. Her
dad, Ron, a Rotary Club member, lined up
speaking engagements in their area for
Charlie so she could raise money for her new
group, which she called HELP (Hope
Encouragement Love Peace). Her goal: to
send blankets to orphanages around theworld. Ambitious, yes, but just a few years
later, HELP has sent some 700 blankets to
nine nations with the help of several
international childrens groups. Her next
goal: to establish HELP chapters in all 50
states (Oklahoma, North Carolina, and
California are already members). Want to get
your state on board? All you have to do is
drop Charlie a note [email protected].

Packing Brighter Futures
Jackson Kelley Age 11, Tristan Kelley Age 9,
West Roxbury, MA
How many boys get excited about school
supplies on sale? These two. When
Jackson and Tristan were researching local
charities for their annual Christmasdonations, they learned that many kids in
the area needed backpacks. So when they
noticed a huge sale on school supplies,
they begged their parents to let them buy
things for kids who couldnt afford them.
We thought that to get good jobs and
have a good life, you need a good
education, says Tristan. They each used
$50 of their own money, and their parentsoffered a match. That was the beginning of
Backpacks for New Beginnings. Since 2009,
the nonprofit has donated more than 400
new backpacks stuffed with school
supplies to local social-service agencies.
Their goal this year: 300.
Racing Against Cancer
Winter Vinecki
Age 12,
Salem, OR
Everybody in Winters family likes to race, soits no surprise that by age 8, shed run a
10K. More eye-opening: She raised $1,100 in
donations for cancer research. Soon after,
she had a brainstorm: She and other athletes
could raise even more money for health
causes by competing in races and triathlons
together. So she decided to form a nonprofit,
Team Winter. But her early interest in cancer
research would soon hit terribly close tohome. In 2008 her dad, Michael, was
diagnosed with prostate cancer. Only 9 years
old then, she swam, cycled, and ran her way
through a triathlon and, with other Team
Winter athletes, helped raise more than
$100,000 for prostate cancer awareness and
research.
Her website, Facebook, and Twitter pageshelped Winter spread the word, and today
Team Winter counts some 200 athletes, who
have brought in more than $250,000. Im
determined to make Team Winter
synonymous with prostate cancer, says
Winter, now 12. Well have blue ribbons
instead of pink.

Discussion What do you think aboutthis list of kids and what they have done?
Does it inspire you? Talk about what kind
of impact a group like this could have in
our community, our schools, among our
friends, in the world. How can this group
be leaders, not followers? What kind of
difference could that make? Read chapters 3
(My Parents) and
4 (My Family) of
our study book. We
will talk through the
discussion
questions when we
get together next
week.
What to do this week before we meet
again
Think some more about what type of
activity you want to do over the course
of our study. Talk about it with your
friends and your parents. Make sure
your parents are okay with it.
Pay attention this week to what you are
focusing on, worrying about, distracted
by. Say a little silent prayer every time
you feel like you are getting pulled
away from how God wants you to live.
