How Does a Medical Alert System Work? A Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) consists of a smaller “speaker phone” that connect to an AC power outlet as well as your phone line. After being properly installed, it will not interfere with your phone service. It also comes with a Personal Help Button (PHB), which acts as a remote access to the system and can be worn on your wrist or on a necklace/lanyard around your neck. When you push the button, it activates the PERS, seizes your phone line, dials a predetermined access code and connects to the Care Center where the operator will respond immediately and ask if you need help. After our representatives have determined what (if any) assistance you need, they will call your responders to get you the assistance that you need. Using a Personal Emergency Response System allows you the freedom to call us whenever you want, day or night, even if it’s just to say that you’re ok. Our Care Center will even call you once a month to make sure that you are ok. We want you to be safe, and live well.
