ZOOLOGICAL NOTES. (Continued from P. 214.)
STRIPED HAWK-MOTH AT BELFAST.
On 6th June there was brought to me a fine specimen of Striped Hawk
Moth, Deilephila livornica Esp. It was taken the previous day in the
garden of Mr. S. E. Thompson, Edenderry House, Woodvale Road, and
when jfound by the gardener was resting on a hedge. The only previous records of this moth in Belfast was the capture of two specimens in Ormeau
Park, -in June, 1888, by Mr. Charles Watts, while the only other record in
'Northern Ireland was one 'reported from Derry on 5th June, 1906, by Mr.
D. C. Campbell, Irish Naturalist, vol. 15, p. 191. Every year this species arrives in Europe from north Africa, and some of them wander as far as
England and southern Sweden. W. M. CRAWFORD.
Orissa, Marlborough Park, Belfast.
A MIGRATION OF LEPIDOPTERA.
Since 4th June I have noticed the following migratory species in this
neighbourhood, in varying numbers. Moths?M. sttllatarum (Humming Bird Hawk), D. livomica (Striped Hawk); butterflies?V. atalanta (Red
Admiral), and V. cardui, (Painted Lady). It would be interesting for
observers to note whether larvae of D. livomica occur later on, and whether
the moth itself will be seen again towards autumn.
