ALL SOULS REMEMBRANCE November is when many make a special effort to remember their beloved dead. One way we can do this is to remember them at the Altar of God. The names you list on the ALL SOULS ENVELOPES will be transcribed on scrolls, which will be placed on the walls of the church. During November, all Sunday masses, as well as the daily Masses will be offered for ALL SOULS. There will be special envelopes in the card holders on the back of the pews in the church (for those who did not receive them in the mail). All monetary donations will be donated to charity. PLEASE BRING YOUR ALL SOULS
ENVELOPS TO THE CHURCH OFFICE OR PLACE IN THE COLLECTION BEFORE OCTOBER 29, 2018.

Renuncia a seguir a Jesús.

It may seem hard to believe, but there still exists in our society, indeed in our very town, adults who were born and raised in this country who can neither read nor write. A while back we helped a 70-year-old man who had recently been released from a court appointed half-way house. A condition of his release was that he not return to the neighborhood in which he had lived. His probation officer felt that if he were to return there it would be no time at all before he would fall in with the same bad influences and again end up in trouble. The man had an exemplary record of performance while in the half-way house. He outworked men less than half his age and got along well with everyone. Try as they might to teach him to read, the man simply did not have the mental capacity to master even the fundamentals and so the project was dropped. He found a job working as a custodian on the opposite side of town from where he once lived. When the time came for him to be released from the half-way house we helped him find an apartment close to where he worked. And then we left him on his own, figuring that he would be okay. Several months later we found out from his landlord that he was behind on his rent. While he had been making payments faithfully, it was never for the right amount and he kept falling farther and farther behind. Notes left on his door went unanswered. When we spoke to the landlord, he said that he felt bad about having to evict the man since he was such a good tenant, but he could not allow the rent to get any further behind. On further examination, we found that his electricity had also been off for quite some time. We failed to realize that he lacked the mental capacity to handle the basics such as paying bills. We worked with the landlord to keep the apartment, got the man’s electricity restored and the office manager at his place of employment agreed to handle his finances for him, first paying the bills that he owes and then giving him the remainder for his other expenses. He was grateful for the help. We are happy to have been able to keep him from falling through the cracks because of his illiteracy that makes it so difficult for him to manage his life.
