Third Sunday Of Lent ~ March 4, 2018
ENCOUNTER SAFIATA
In Burkina Faso, we encounter Safiata, a mother, grandmother and farmer who relies on the money she makes from her crops to put her children through school. How can our purchases this Lent support farmers and artisans? How can you support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org for more information.

From the Pastor Dear Parishioners,
Can you imagine a city like Chicago without traffic signs? The traffic signs are there to guide us, to warn us or to regulate the flow of the traffic. Those signs not only protect others but also protect us. Whether we like it or not the more we follow those traffic signs, history has proven that they have saved hundreds and thousands of people’s lives.
Not only do we have traffic signs in the streets, but we also have laws in our society that help us to defend our country and peoples’ rights. When you join a company, there is a set of principles that you accept to be accepted into that company.
Well, in our Spiritual lives God has given us ten signs, ten laws, ten principles or 10 commandments to follow. These were the first set of norms developed before any society or country began. These were given to humankind before any set of civil laws, traffic signs or any other kind of regulations that societies, countries, and organizations had created.
The most important thing of all is that they are still true today. Laws change, regulations get new principles, but the Ten Commandments have been in human history for more than three thousand years. They were given directly by God to Moses at the Mount of Sinai. Because God knows that we humans need direction, that we need principles that could guide us to be not only good and better people but more important these Commandments were given to us to set us free.
Nowadays when you buy almost anything, you most likely will find a set of instructions on how to build what you bought and how to make it work. Well, the Ten Commandments are the set of instructions given to us on how to be humans, on how to be sons and daughters of God. When God created us, he gave us these ten principles on how to be able to survive, to respect each other and to be happy.
Some may think that they can follow some commandments but not all. Can you imagine following only some of the regulatory traffic signs and leaving the others optional? It does not work, and the same happens with the Ten Commandments. We are called to follow them under the light of Jesus’ twofold single commandment of loving God and our neighbor.
In Jesus and Mary
Queridos feligreses,
