St. Madeleine Sophie Parish - Parish Pastoral Administration
The Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ—May 16 - 17, 2015
Our Pastor Fr. Jim Picton…... Ext. 102
First Communion Weekend This weekend we will celebrate First Communions at all the Masses! Thank you to Jo David, Kim Racine, catechists, and parents for helping to prepare the children for this sacrament. Also thank you to Ann Klosterman, Agatha Bahnk and other volunteers who helped make the beautiful corsages and flower arrangements!
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord which was ordinarily celebrated on Thursday, forty days from the end of Lent. The Bishops of the United States have transferred this feast day to the last Sunday of the Easter Season, given that it is a hardship for their congregants who work outside the home to go to Mass. In days gone by, whole towns would take time to go to Mass, along with the school children to celebrate this feast which marks Jesus rising to heaven to serve at God’s right hand.
This weekend we continue the Archdiocesan Annual Catholic Appeal. Thank you to everyone who has participated by making a pledge. Our goal is to have 100% participation. Participation includes financial pledges, one time contributions, and offers of prayerful support. Please return your pledge envelopes in the collection baskets at Mass, return them to the parish office or pledge online on our website www.stmadeleine.org or the archdiocesan website: www.seattlearchdiocese.org.
Once we have achieved our goal, any monies received that exceed our goal will be returned to the parish to support parish operations and help fund our parish project of moving forward with the priest housing project named to honor our founding pastor, Fr. Jarlath Heneghan. This fund will be used to provide a down payment on the bridge loan we need to begin construction on the parish rectory to be built on the property the parish owns. For more information please see the informational flier on the Heneghan House Priest Rectory project available in the Narthex and online.
Also, if you are able to make a pledge please be sure to check with your employer on matching gift opportunities. In some cases, your pledge can be doubled or tripled!! See our website and click on the matching gift link for more information and to search for matching gift information about your employer’s matching gift program.

Congratulations to the following children on their First Communion!
This program will engage your faith as you share in prayer, Scripture, spiritual practice and dialogue. Your heart will be opened to a greater love by encountering the witness of Jesus in the Gospels. Good News People is an initiative from the pastor, Fr. Jim, in partnership with the Parish Council, Stewardship & Social Justice Commissions, and parish staff, to help us, as a parish community, to embrace the emerging role of the parish as gathered AND sent. Good News People is an exciting new step into the future, as we respond to Pope Francis’ call to ‘fast from indifference.’ You will share faith, and experience your faith community at a deeper level.
Signups will begin in June! Please see the enclosed flier for more information.

Question of the Week
Feast of the Ascension of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ Theme: Jesus is seated at God’s right hand in heaven. Question for Children: What do you think it feels like to sit next to God as Jesus does?
Question for Youth: Have you ever had a reunion with a friend or relative you missed very much? What was it like? What do you think Jesus feels about returning to his Father, God? Question for Adults: How do you proclaim the Gospel without actually teaching or giving homilies?
