so neither can you unless you remain in me. “

Weekly Reflection:5th Sunday of Easter – Cycle B – April 29, 2018
“Remain in me, as I remain in you.”
What does it mean to be a Christian today? It certainly is more than just following a set of commandments. It means pri-
marily sharing a life with Jesus – that is to say we have entered into a true relationship with Christ so that we reflect His values and His desires in our lives.
This is what the Parable of the Vine and Branches tells us. Jesus is the true vine and His Father is the vine grower. From the Father comes the fullness of life that flows into Christ. In turn, as branches of the vine, we obtain our own "fullness of life" only through our relationship in faith and love with Jesus and loving service for others.
Consequently cut off from Jesus, we will not thrive. We cannot receive the gift of divine life and neither can we pass it to others. Thus, we must remain in Him. To remain united with Him is the starting point and goal of Christian life.
Let us pray unceasingly for this grace to remain forever in Jesus!
“Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.”
St Jerome
