Greetings,
I am elated and motivated to be your SCAEOP President this year. I
have chosen “Education is our business, Excellence is our standard,
Passion is our fuel” as our theme for the year. This theme embodies
the essence of SCAEOP and helps to further establish our goals as a
professional organization. Additionally, this theme reiterates that not
only are we in the BUSINESS of education, but that we engage in
various educational opportunities through the Professional Standards
Program, professional development, and networking with one another.
It is important to remember that we should intentionally be excellent in
all that we do; thus, creating a standard of EXCELLENCE that blazes
the way for others to follow. Lastly, know the passion that fuels you in
all that you do and why you do it. It is important to remember that
when your day seems long and you haven’t received a pat on the
back, that there is a PASSION within that drives you a network of
colleagues who support and appreciate all that you do.
Know that I am committed to doing my best for the association and its
members. I am looking forward to a year of excellence. It is my hope
that through professional development, celebrating and acknowledging
recognitions, and collaborating with each of you that we will grow
stronger as an association.
Remember that SCAEOP would not be SCAEOP without each and
every one of you.

2019 SCAEOP ANNUAL CONFERENCE North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
February 28 – March 3, 2019
This years conference was amazing! There were over 320 attendees and 60
First Timers. The conference opened up on Friday with a dynamic speaker, Dr.
Baron Davis, Richland School District Two Superintendent with a presentation
called “The 5 P’s of Life”. That afternoon, Reverend Sterling J. Mosby, High
School Principal for Florence School District 2 at Hannah-Pamplico High School
in Pamplico, SC followed up with a presentation called, “The Power of
Relationships and Understanding Cultural Diversity”. There were several
informative workshops that were filled to capacity.
Many participated in the 50/50 drawings and patronized the vendors that were on
site. The Business meeting was very productive and inclusive as we had
representation from various affiliates during the nominations of the committees.
Once again, congratulations to those that received their PSP and CEOE
designation and the Administrative of the Year, Deon Jackson, Senior Associate
Superintendent for Operations and Administration for Berkeley County School
District and the Office Professional of the Year, Kim Glaze, CEOE Berkeley
AEOP. Mrs. Tammy Wilson from Newberry County received the SCAEOP
Membership Scholarship. This year’s student scholarship recipients were Siada
Tisdale from Williamsburg County, Laneshia Brown from Richland County, and
Avery Rice from Georgetown County. All three of these students had excellent
GPAs, participated in multiple extra-curricular activities and had impressive
resumes.
The conference closed out on Sunday with Lisa Mills, Comedian presenting four
powerful strategies for exchanging work-life stress for work-life success.
SCAEOP and NAEOP memberships were given out and the beautiful affiliate
baskets were raffled off.

RCAEOP (Richland County AEOP) On Saturday, April 6, 2019, members of the Richland County Association of Educational Office
Professionals held their annual Professional Development Day at the Richland Two
Conference Center at Columbia Place Mall in Columbia, SC. This year’s theme was “An Eye-
Opening Experience” and was centered around “Vision.”
The day was filled with inspirational speakers and vision board activities. Attendees had the
opportunity to network with members from other AEOPs in the state as persons from five (5)
additional school districts attended the event. Breakfast and lunch were provided and gave an
opportunity for those in attendance to network with one another.
The afternoon concluded with members creating an association vision board that will be
referenced and used to guide the business of the association for the coming year.

Field Service Program
What are the advantages to being a SCAEOP affiliate?
If your association is an affiliate, you may request through the Field Service Program a
SCAEOP board member to:
- Present a workshop at a local meeting
- Promote SCAEOP to office professionals and administrators in your area
- Install Officers in your local association
SCAEOP has board members that would be glad to serve and assist your local associations.
You may visit our website: www.SCAEOP.org to see the current presenters and presentation
topics. All presentations are available for PSP (Professional Standards Program) credit hours.
Please continue to promote SCAEOP to your local associations and encourage other office
professionals in your area to become involved at the local and state levels.

Mentoring
Our Networking Initiative is here!
This initiative affords the opportunity to connect with members who share like positions and/or
responsibilities. We can share personal work style tips/knowledge on organization, power
school, bookkeeping, effective customer service, or any concern you may have. This initiative is
also designed to assist in carrying out this year’s vision “Education is our Business, Excellence
is our Standard and Passion is our Fuel.”
A list of networking mentors/mentees can be found on the association’s website. Please feel
free to reach out to each other for assistance. Remember, we are our best resource.

Our Ways and Means Committee has many logo items for sale. In addition to popular items such
as fleece vests, long and short-sleeve T-shirts and cups, they also have for sale, a lightweight
nylon wind-resistant jacket ($30) and a small umbrella ($12). These items can be paid for online at
the SCAEOP Storefront on the association. There is a limited number of jackets available. Logo
merchandise is a great way to support the association initiatives and show your SCAEOP pride.

To make hotel reservations at the Riverside Hotel in Boise, ID for the 2019 Annual NAEOP
Conference call the hotel at 208-343-1871. Request reservations under the group name:
“NAEOP Annual Conference and Institute” with the dates desired. Make sure to call before

Proofreading Tips
Proofreading is a critical component of effective written communications. Depending on the
complexity and importance of a document, you may want to try some of the following
proofreading tips:
1. Read your work aloud.
2. Read slowly, concentrating on each word (maybe even point at each word).
3. Ask a coworker to read your work.
4. Proofread the body of the text first, then go back and proofread headings; finally, check that
formatting is correct throughout.
5. Be especially watchful for errors that are not picked up by the spell-check feature:
a. Repeated, substituted, or omitted words
b. Errors in copying data (names, addresses, dates)
c. Errors in spacing and formatting
d. Material kept from a prior version
e. Errors in copying material from another source
6. Remember that many mistakes (often the embarrassing ones!) are in proper names, dates,
times, or locations.
7. Watch out for familiar words or phrases. Read what is actually on the page-not what you
expect to see there.
8. If the document contains references, make sure all citations are included and are in the
proper (American Psychological Association, or APA format).
9. If the document contains math, check calculations for accuracy.
10. If there are links, click on them to be sure they are valid.
11.Before pressing “send” for any e-mail:
a. Confirm the recipient is correct.
b. Check the subject line.
c. Make sure any attachment is attached. Open the attachment and confirm it is correct.
d. Read over the e-mail.
