Abstract
Malcolm Beare built an innovative hybriddesign of the IC engine, by combining a twostroke with a four stroke engine.
The Beare Head is a new type of four strokeengine head design known as the BeareHead
The Beare Head uses a piston and ports verymuch like a two stroke engine to replace theover head valve system that is found in four
stroke engines today. The four stroke block, pistons and crankshaft remain unaltered. This combination of two stroke and fourstroke technology has given the engine itsname the six stroke engine (2 + 4 = 6).

The intake strokehappens when thepiston is on itsdownward path
with the intakevalve open. Thisaction createssuction, drawing
atomized fuel inthis case gasolinemixed with air, intothe combustion
chamber.

The power strokebegins at a criticalmoment, just as the air-
fuel mixture is at its mostcompressed. Asupercharged voltage isdelivered to the sparkplugs from the ignition
coil, at that point it ignitesthe fuel mixture. Thevalves in the engine arestill closed during thisperiod. Thus the
explosion forces thepiston down to turn theengine's crankshaft, delivering the power viathe gearbox and clutch to
the driving wheels.

Advantages of a Six StrokeEngine In a six stroke engine the energy
absorption is less because of sloweracceleration of reciprocating parts.
It reduces the weight and complexityof the engines head by as much as50%.
Torque is increased by 35% andefficiency increased by the same.

The number of parts is 15 comparedto a four stroke of approx 40 to 50
parts. Also, to reduce manufacturingcosts the head and block can bemachined in one piece.
Better fuel economy and cleanerburning longer service intervals andconsiderably reduced tooling costswhen compared with a conventional
four-stroke design. Longer service intervals like once in
5000kms.

Conclusion
The six stroke engine stands atop the4-stroke engine in several aspects likefuel efficiency, torque, reduced wear
and tear of engine components. This is presently being employed in
racing vehicle engines which needmore acceleration, maximum possible
torque and velocity. Very soon it will be used in general
transport vehicles.
