I. INFORMACIÓN GENERAL DEL CURSO
A. Descripción del curso
Este curso pretende crear un espacio para que el/la estudiante reflexione sobre las formas en que
las personas piensan unas de otras, se influyen y se relacionan entre sí, dentro de su contexto
socio-cultural e histórico. En el curso también, se promoverá que el/la estudiante examine y
comprenda el pensamiento social, la conducta de los individuos en su entorno y su conexión e
interdependencia con el mismo. Además, se familiarizará al estudiante con una serie de temas y
conceptos de investigadores destacados en este campo de la psicología social en su desarrollo.
Este curso requiere la certificación de IRB.
B. Objetivos de contenido
Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de
1. Desarrollar una visión crítica sobre la importancia de la influencia de otras personas y de la
sociedad sobre la conducta individual.
2. Adquirir conocimientos sobre las distintas áreas de estudio que abarca la psicología social.
3. Desarrollar una visión crítica sobre el efecto que tienen los medios de comunicación en las
conductas grupales e individuales.
4. Demostrar dominio de los postulados básicos de la disciplina aplicando los mismos a
situaciones específicas.
C. Objetivos de lenguaje
Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de
1. Comprender discursos orales, en inglés/español, y reconocer sus diversas finalidades y las
situaciones de comunicación en que se producen; compartir, comparar y desarrollar ideas
nuevas acerca de la Psicología Social de manera colaborativa; adquirir aprendizajes
significativos, basados en la experiencia y en temas motivadores; responder a estímulos
auditivos tales como vídeos, presentaciones audiovisuales y actividades interactivas.
2. Expresarse oralmente, en inglés/español, con propiedad y corrección, de acuerdo con las
diversas finalidades y situaciones comunicativas y adoptando un estilo expresivo propio;
analizar, opinar y comunicar oralmente puntos de vista e ideas; desarrollar habilidades y

competencias que lo capaciten para su vida académica, laboral y cotidiana; utilizar el
lenguaje para adquirir conocimientos nuevos acerca de la Psicología Social y para aprender
a utilizar técnicas sencillas de manejo de la información a través de los medios tradicionales
y la tecnología informática.
3. Investigar, analizar, interpretar, resumir, parafrasear y comprender, en inglés/español, los
datos que recopile de las diversas fuentes de información sobre el tema de la Psicología
Social; desarrollar actitudes críticas ante los mensajes, valorar la importancia de sus
manifestaciones y beneficiarse autónomamente de la lectura como fuente de información y
enriquecimiento cultural.
4. Redactar textos, en inglés/español, desde una postura personal, crítica y creativa, con
propiedad y corrección, para establecer una comunicación clara y efectiva; utilizar la
escritura como fuente de información para proveer datos pertinentes relacionados con la
Psicología Social.

La calificación final está basada en la acumulación de puntos por taller (30 % para idioma
y 70 % para conocimientos en la disciplina). Calcule la calificación final basada en los
criterios que aparecen al lado izquierdo de la tabla (la calificación final representa 50 %
para el idioma español y 50 % para el idioma inglés).

facilitador evaluará las actividades de cada taller, basado en el requisito del 30 % en

I. GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION
A. Course Description
This course will provide the opportunity for students to learn and understand how people think about
each other, how they influence each other, and how they relate to each other, within social, cultural,
and historical contexts. The course will promote the examination of the social thought process, the
social behavior of people, and the connection between the two. The student will also become
familiar with themes and concepts proposed by well-known authors and theorists in the field of
social psychology. This course requires IRB certificate.
B. Content Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to
1. Develop a critical understanding of the influence of society and of others on individual
behavior.
2. Acquire knowledge about the different areas within social psychology.
3. Develop a critical understanding of the effect that different communication channels
have on the behavior of individuals and groups.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic concepts within the field by applying them to
specific situations.
C. Language Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to
1. Understand oral discussions in English/Spanish and recognize their different purposes
and the communication settings in which they are produced. In addition, share,
compare, and develop new ideas about Social Psychology in a collaborative manner;
acquire significant knowledge supported by experiences and motivational topics;
respond to auditory stimuli such as videos, audiovisual presentations and interactive
activities.

2. Express him/herself in English/Spanish correctly and coherently for a variety of
purposes and in a variety of communication settings, adopting a personal style of
expression; analyze, express opinions, and communicate orally different points of view
and ideas. In addition, develop abilities and skills that will prepare him/her for
academic and daily life and the workplace; use language to acquire new knowledge
about Social Psychology and learn to utilize simple techniques of handling information
through traditional media and computer technology.
3. Investigate, analyze, interpret, summarize, paraphrase, and understand in
English/Spanish information obtained from a variety of media on Social Psychology. In
addition, develop critical attitudes towards communication media messages, reflecting
on the importance of this information; benefit independently from reading as a form of
communication and as a source of cultural enrichment.
4. Produce written works in English/Spanish expressing a personal, critical and creative
point of view, using correct spelling, grammar, and coherence in order to establish an
effective and clear communication. In addition, use writing as a means of
communication to provide information about Social Psychology.

*Facilitators and students are required to use the rubrics provided in the Appendix
Section of the course module for the evaluation of assignments and activities in each
workshop. The facilitator will evaluate the activities of each workshop based on 30% for
language activities and 70% for content activities. The activities must be at a college level
in both languages to support the development of bilingual professionals. The final grade

A. Objetivos de contenido
Al completar el taller, el estudiante será capaz de:
1. Definir los conceptos relacionados a la psicología social.
2. Identificar los conocimientos básicos de la psicología social.
3. Discutir los temas de la influencia y la percepción social.
4. Discutir como la influencia social se refleja en la familia.
B. Objetivos de lenguaje

1. Elaborar en sus propias palabras y entender las diferentes teorías de la psicología social.
2. Participar en discusiones y entender las diferentes teorías de la psicología social.
3. Evaluar las páginas de internet (e-libro, biblioteca virtual, etc.) sobre las diferentes
teorías relacionadas a la psicología social.
4. Escribir en el foro de discusión sobre los conceptos relacionados a la psicología social.
C. Actividades antes del taller
1. Definir las siguientes palabras. Deberá utilizar el vocabulario técnico de la
disciplina; siga las instrucciones del facilitador (si aplica).

a la psicología social. Prepare un resumen o un bosquejo y llévelo a clases para
contribuir a la discusión del material y aclarar dudas.
3. El facilitador creará un foro de discusión oral en la herramienta VoiceThread de
Blackboard. En dicho foro, el estudiante hablará sobre la siguiente interrogante:
a. Describa las relaciones sociales a través de las redes sociales (Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, etc.) y cómo estas han impactado el desarrollo de la
sociedad.
La información presentada debe ser desde un punto de vista objetivo, apoyado por
literatura e investigaciones. Absténgase de su opinión personal. El/La estudiante
deberá reaccionar oralmente a los comentarios de, por lo menos, tres compañeros/as.
4. Prepare un diagrama Venn que explique las diferencias y similitudes de la
Psicología y la Sociología. Prepárese para participar en una actividad colaborativa
en clase.
5. El facilitador creará un foro de discusión escrito, usando la herramienta Discussion
Board. En dicho foro, los alumnos contestarán y elaborarán las siguientes
preguntas:
a. ¿Cómo la influencia social impacta psicológicamente al individuo?
b. ¿Cuáles son los retos que confronta un individuo cuando no se ajusta a la
evolución social?
D. Actividades durante el taller
1. Los estudiantes diseñarán en pareja un diagrama Venn para comparar la rama de la
psicología y la rama de la sociología.
2. El facilitador dividirá la clase en tres grupos. A cada grupo se le asignará uno de los
siguientes temas: 1. Influencia Social; 2. Percepción Social; 3. Relación Social. Cada
grupo debe compartir con los/as compañeros del sub-grupo sus hallazgos realizados en
la tarea antes de la clase. Cada grupo debe preparar un mapa conceptual con el tema
asignado.
3. El/La facilitador(a) le pedirá a los/as estudiantes que hagan un círculo. Una vez el
círculo formado, el/la estudiante debe hablar de una persona que haya influenciado de

manera positiva su vida personal. En adición, el/la estudiante debe explicar la(s)
razón(es) por el cuál esta persona ha influenciado su vida.
4. Comparar la psicología social del pasado y el presente. Hacer una gráfica (T-chart)
para explicar en cómo los cambios en la sociedad influyen en el desarrollo de la
psicología social.
5. Explorar en el impacto de las redes sociales en nuestra sociedad. Mencionar los puntos
ventajas, desventajas y posibles retos. El/La facilitador puede decidir si desea hacer
una discusión oral del tema o una actividad de grupo.
6. Discutir oralmente el tema de la percepción social y los retos cuando la primera
impresión hacia una persona es equivocada.
7. El/la facilitador dividirá la clase en cuatro grupos. Cada grupo debe desarrollar uno de
los siguientes temas: 1. La influencia social en la comunidad; 2. La influencia social en
la religión; 3. La influencia social en el trabajo; y 4. La influencia social en la familia.
Cada grupo realizará una presentación sobre los hallazgos de manera crítica.

4. Write information through an essay and Blackboard about social psychology as
scientific discipline.

2. Using the Virtual Library, E-Lab, Internet, and other academic resources, research
information on the scientific methods and studies conducted in the field of social
psychology.
3. The facilitator will create an oral discussion forum using the VoiceThread tool in
Blackboard. Students will select one theory of social psychology and orally discuss their
findings about the theory selected. Students will verbally cite the resource use for their
findings. Student should react to the comments of at least three colleagues.
4. Write an essay to explain social psychology as a scientific discipline. The facilitator will
determine the number of pages. Be sure to use APA style, include in text-citations and
references (it is recommended to use, at least, three references). Submit the essay through
NetTutor for feedback. The facilitator will send written works to SafeAssignTM
to check
for plagiarism.

Workshop Eight
A. Content Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, the student will be able to
1. Describe and explain how social psychology can be applied to everyday life.
2. Demonstrate knowledge about the basic principles of social psychology.
3. Do a research in naturalistic observation.
4. Understand the theory of applied psychology.
5. Discuss the concepts of social psychology in business, law and health.

social setting.

C. Activities before the Workshop
1. Go to Rosetta Stone Advantage and complete all the corresponding activities designed to
develop/improve linguistic skills in English and Spanish. Complete the information
required in Appendix E: Language Lab/E-Lab Documentation and submit, as indicated, to
the facilitator.
2. Using the Virtual Library, Internet, and/or other academic resources from the E-Lab,
research information on the following topics:

3. The facilitator will create a written discussion forum using the Discussion Board tool in
Blackboard. Students will answer the following questions:
a. How you can be an agent of change in your society?
b. Who do you need in your team in order to be an agent of change in society?
Students will react to the comments of at least three colleagues.
4. Naturalist Observation: Door Opening Behavior Experiment: For this project you will
conduct a naturalist observation in which you will unobtrusively observe the behavior
of others. You will do this quietly and without calling attention to yourself, and with no
direct involvement in behaviors under investigation. People should not be aware that
they are being observed. One common courtesy practiced in our society involves
assisting others through doorways. If two people arrive at the entrance to a building
simultaneously, several different behaviors may be observed from different people.
Locate a public building with one set of glass doors, which you can observe nearby
without interfering with the flow of traffic. Note any pairs of individuals approaching
the doors and record the frequency of behaviors observed. Number, time, and record
each incident separately. Make a chart to keep track of the different behaviors you will
observe. Write down as much information as you can about the incident and
demographic information about the people involved. This assignment requires that you
have completed your IRB certificate.

5. Finalize the digital portfolio ensuring that you have accurately complied with all the
guidelines stipulated in the Digital Performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook. Submit
the portfolio according to the facilitator’s instructions.
6. Prepare for the second partial test, which the facilitator will administer in English, at the
time deemed most appropriate, during the last two hours of the workshop.
Or
Prepare for the final exam, which the facilitator will administer as previously explained:
50% of the test in Spanish towards the end of the first two hours of the workshop and 50%
of the test in English at the beginning of the last two hours of the workshop.
D. Activities during the Workshop
1. The facilitator will provide the class evaluation. The student representative should be
responsible for this activity.
2. The facilitator will lead the class in a review of the topics covered in the previous
workshop to ensure students’ comprehension.
3. The facilitator will divide the class in dyads to briefly discuss their progress by using
Rosetta Stone Advantage. Take this opportunity to share their benefits and possible
challenges by using it.
4. The facilitator will divide the class in small groups to assign one of the topics below.
Each group must create a concept map about their findings:

b. Social Psychology and Law
c. Social Psychology and Business
d. Social Psychology and Health

5. The class will be divided in small groups of three to share their outcome and learning
experience about the “Naturalist Observation: Door Opening Behavior Experiment.”
Each group must report to the rest of the class their similarities and differences about

the length, language, content and time for the test.
