Fun Facts – SHRM National
• The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management.
• Founded in 1948, SHRM currently has more than 575 affiliated professional chapters and 400 student chapters.
• SHRM headquarters is in Alexandria, VA.
• SHRM has more than 300,000 professional and student members in more than 165 countries.
• SHRM has about 400 staff members and more than 6,000 volunteer leaders!

• The Virginia SHRM State Council represents over 14,000 human resource professionals in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The SHRM Excel Awards application is separate and distinct from the SHAPE program.

coming year • Due 12/1 of each year

The Chapter’s “Operating Manual” • A copy of your chapter bylaws is available at SHRM;
contact your Member Engagement Associate (MEA) • Chapter bylaws should be reviewed annually. • Revisions must be sent to your Field Service Director
(FSD) for review and SHRM approval • Any bylaws changes must be approved by SHRM

Chapter Compliance – Tax Filings
• Chapters qualifying as a non-profit organization must file yearly
• Form filed depends on annual gross receipts • 990 - Gross receipts > $200,000 or total assets > $500,000
• 990EZ - Gross receipts < $200,000 and total assets < $500,000
• 990-N Gross receipts of $50,000 or less
• Due 15th day of the 5th month following chapter’s year-end • Penalties for late filings • Open to Public Inspection

Chapter Financial Support Payments
(CFSP)*
Non-100% Chapters – 2x Year
– $5.00 for each Professional SHRM member primarily coded to the chapter.
100% Chapter – Quarterly – $6.25 for each professional SHRM members
primarily coded to the chapter.
Net Gains – Paid in the first quarter of each calendar year – Calculated by subtracting the 12/31 national
membership total for last year from the 12/31 national membership total for the current year and multiplying the difference by $25.00.
*All chapters must be in good standing to be eligible for CFSP.
SHRM Certification/ Recertification Incentives*
Chapters - $20 per SHRM Member.
State Councils - $10 per SHRM Member (in-chapter & at-large) in their state.
* Chapters and state councils will receive payments for those SHRM members who recertified by 12/31/18. Payouts will be made in early 2019.
State Councils - CFSP State Councils are given $1 per SHRM Member in the state.
