5.6 Details of student counselling and career guidance
A workshop on Goal Setting was conducted on 30th
August. In all 78 students attended the
same and established their short term and long term goal in life. The daily schedule was
prepared by almost every participant. The regular time table with the topics was displayed
and accordingly lectures were conducted. Virtual / recorded lectures by faculties of
reputed IAS academies were shown to the students. Basic portions of the MPSC / UPSC
syllabus for the subjects like Geography, History, Polity and Science were completed.
The special lectures for the communication skill and English Language were delivered by
Dr. Ms. Pallavi Barbde. Students’ response to these classes was also very good. Dr. S. A.
Arsad has also conducted lectures on general science covering fundamental science part
from the syllabus. Scientific movies covering general concept like origin of earth,
Evolution of life, Extra-terrestrial Life, Galaxies, etc. were shown during the regular
classes

To get familiar with the MPSC / UPSC examination, MOCK EXAM similar to the pattern
of MPSC was announced on 31st August, 2016. Overall 165 students registered and
appeared for the examination on 16th
October, 2016.The result was declared on 24th
October, 2016.
The Seven Day Behavioural Training Programme was organized for all college students.
Reputed Corporate & Soft Skills Trainer Mrs. Asra Mirza was invited to conduct the
session during 17 – 23 Jan. 2017. The following specially designed modules were

3. Title of the Practice: Design and Assembling of Experimental Kits
Goals:
• To impart hands-on training of experimental kit design.
• To prepare low cost and user friendly kits.
The practice:
Designing and Assembling of Experimental Kits through the involvement of teachers,
staff and students is a routine practice of the department. Through this activity
department has not only saved money but has provided an opportunity to advanced
learners to learn more about electronic and electrical devices.

Students show keen interest towards equipment/kits repair and assembling.

NAAC sponsored National Conference on Academic and Administrative Audit (AAA)
of the Higher Education Institutions
The Two-Day NAAC sponsored National Conference on Academic and Administrative Audit
(AAA) of the Higher Education Institutions, was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance
Cell (IQAC) of the college on December 09-10, 2016. The objective of the conference was
to facilitate an understanding of the importance of Academic and Administrative Audit
(AAA) of the Higher Education Institutions and to encourage self-evaluation and
accountability in higher education institutions. The conference convener Dr. V. G. Thakare,
Principal, while welcoming the guests and the delegates for the conference, appraised the
gathering on the working of the college IQAC. The inauguration session was chaired by Adv.
Arun B. Shelke, President, Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. S. P. Kane, Vice Chancellor of RTM Nagpur
University, Nagpur. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S. P. Kane elaborated on the concept of
Academic and Administrative Audit and its relevance in higher education institutions. He
explained the rationale and the need for conducting AAA through external peers. The
conference proceeding of nearly 157 pages, having ISBN number, which includes the
keynote address, invited talks and twenty six full length papers of the participants, was
published at the hands of the inaugurator. The IQAC newsletter of the college too was
published on this occasion.
The National conference witnessed the participation of 143 delegates comprising of
Principals, IQAC coordinators and faculty from various colleges. Dr. R. G. Pardeshi,
Principal, Fergusson College, Pune, delivered the keynote address on ‘Academic and
Administrative Audit: A Quality Assurance Tool’. The first invited talk was delivered by Dr.
M.R. Kurup, Secretary, Kelkar Education Trust, Mumbai, on ‘Management and 3 A`s. He
illustrated the significance of the role of management representatives in the process of

The Panel Discussion Session on the theme of the conference was organized on the second
day under the chairmanship of Dr. P.G. Yeole, Pro- Vice Chancellor, RTMNU, Nagpur, and
as the learned members of the panel, Prof. N. S. Nikam, President, Maharashtra Principals`
Federation, Pune, Prof. V. G. Bhamburkar, Secretary, , Dr. S.F.R. Khadri, Director, IQAC,
SGBAU, Amravati and Dr. P. B. Raghuvanshi, President, NUTA actively participated in the
discussion. The delegates presented their queries in the process of internal and external audit
and those queries were answered by the panel members. There was a two way fruitful
interaction between the panel and the delegates. Paper presentation session, was chaired by
Dr. V. S. Jamode, in which twenty six papers were presented on AAA, by the participants.
The valedictory session was chaired by Principal Dr. V. G. Thakare along with the guests like
Dr. S.F. R. Khadri and Dr. V. S. Jamode. The IQAC coordinator and organizing Secretary Dr.
H. S. Lunge and all IQAC members Dr. P. W. Deotare, Dr. W.S. Barde, Dr. P.R. Padole, Dr.
Mrs. S.P. Ingole, Dr. G.A. WAgh and Sh. V. V. Hebbar took great efforts for the successful

DST Sponsored Two Days Workshop for High School Teachers
The Two-Day Workshop on “Inculcation of Activity Based Learning Practices in Science and
Mathematics Teachers at Secondary Level and Exploration of Innovative Practices in
Teaching , Learning and Evaluation Methods” was organized from 30th November to 1st
December, 2016. This workshop was catalyzed by National Council for Science and
Technology & Communication, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. The
workshop was planned in association with Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Science
Centre, Amravati and Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Human Resource Development and Training
Centre, Amravati. The collaborators for this workshop were Homi Bhabha Centre for Science
Education, Mumbai, Asian Association for Biology Education (India Chapter), Techshiksha,
Navi Mumbai and Bajaj Science Education Centre, Wardha.

An inaugural ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Adv. Arunbhau Shelke,

(RGSTC), Govt. of Maharashtra. Mr. S. M. Yadgire, Secretary, MSS&HS Board, Amravati
Division, Amravati, Dr. Nirankush Khubalkar, President, Asian Association for Biology
Education (India Chapter), Prof. S. N. Deshmukh, also graced the occasion. The session on
the theme “Biology Learning – A Fun” was conducted by faculties from Homi Bhabha
Centre for Science Education, Mumbai, Dr. Rutwik Thengodkar and Mr. Karun Hambir.
Second session “Rising Mathematic Understanding level of School Students” was dealt by
Prof. Veena Deshmukh, Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University
(SNDT), Mumbai. Activity Based Learning for Physics and Electronics was promoted by
Mr. Amit Modi, Director, TechShiksha Science Hub, Navi Mumbai. On the second day talk
on Bridging Gaps - Classical vs Modern Teaching Methods by Mr. Manohar Mali, Vice
Principal, was organized. This was followed by interactive session by Mrs. Sunita Khadse,
Head, Department of Chemistry, Bajaj Science Centre, Wardha on the topic “Chemistry –
Through Activities”. Next interaction was organized between the participants and
Commonwealth Best Teacher Award Winner Dr. Tushar Tamhane. He demonstrated a
fantastic way to deliver complex concept of Physics in the classroom through inquiry based
approach.
Post lunch sessions dealt with presentations by participants and a talk by Dr. Dinesh Khedkar,
coordinator,on Methods of Science Teaching at High School Level. The workshop was
concluded in the presence of Mr. A. K. Chitaliya, Principal, Manibai Gujrati High School,
Amravati as a chief guest and Dr. V. G. Thakare as the chair person of the valedictory
function.
Inter-collegiate research festival (amravati district) avishkar-2016 It’s a matter of immense pleasure that Hon. Vice Chancellor, SGBAU has nominated Dr.
Dilip Hande as the District Coordinator for the organization of Amravati district level
Avishkar -2016 in our college for U.G., P.G., Post PG (Ph.D.) and teachers pursuing M.Phil.
and Ph.D. The research festival was organized to inculcate the research attitude among the
students and motivating them to take up research works.

The event was organized on 7th October 2016. A total of 175 posters and models from six
disciplines were registered for the event from above subjects from different colleges from
Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. The posters and models were presented by
two or three students. In all 500 students had directly participated in the event and 200 more
students visited the venue to peruse the posters and models presented by various colleges.
Dr. Murlidhar Chandekar, Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the festival. Hon. Adv. Arunbhau
Shelke, President of presided over the function. Dr. Anand Aswar, Coordinator Avishkar
Cell, was present for the ceremony. Introductory speech was delivered by Dr. V.G. Thakare,
Principal, Dr. Dilip Hande, gave vote of thanks. Prof. M.A. Ali, was the chief guest for the
valedictory function of Avishkar- 2016. Dr. V.G. Thakare, presided over the function and Dr.
D.V. Hande presented the report. Finally 28 posters and models of 56 researchers from
Amravati district were selected for University level Avishkar- 2016. For the evaluation of
presentations 14 jury members were invited who played a very significant role in the
selection of participants for
university level Avishkar. The overwhelming response to this science fest, boosted our moral
and encouraged us to organize similar events in future.
Department of Computer Science:
COMSOFT - 2016-17 The ComSoft society was formed by P.G. students of Computer Science Department & was
inaugurated on September 24, 2016 at the hands of Dr. Avinash Manwar, P.G. Department
of Computer Science, SGBAU, Amravati. This function was presided over by Prof. Hemant
Deshmukh, Head, Department of Computer Science. Prof. C.H.Sawarkar & Dr. Parag Kaveri
were present as guests of honor for this inaugural function. All the dignitaries were felicitated
& then Prof. Mukul Bhonde, the coordinator, briefed the gathering about the objectives of the
formation of this ComSoft Society. Dr. Avinash Manwar talked about how to prepare for the
NET-SET examination along with the PG studies. He guided the students over selecting the
subjects of your choice for NET-SET. Prof. Sawarkar & Dr. Kaveri also spoke on this
occasion and guided the PG students.
The ComSoft society organized an intercollegiate seminar competition for P.G. students in
Computer Science & Application. Total eighteen students from nine colleges under SGBAU
jurisdiction participated in the competition. The winners were given cash prizes. Ms. Nikita
Mehare from Shri Shivaji College, Akola got the first prize, Ms. Bhagyashri Janjabi of
G.S.College Khamgaon got the Second prize and Ms. Vidhi More of SGBAU got the third
prize in the competition. The certificates of participation were distributed to others.

TECHNOTSAV-2016 An event ‘TECHNOTSAV-2016’ for U.G. students. The inaugural function was presided by
Dr. V.G.Thakare, Principal, in the auspicious presence of Mr. Arun Ranvir, District
Informatics Officer, NIC, Amravati as the chief guest. Prof. Hemant Deshmukh, along with
his colleagues, Prof. V.W. Labade & Prof. Mukul Bhonde were present on the dais on this
occasion. Mr. Arun Ranvir praised the Digital India Project while addressing the students &
appealed for the promotion of digital lockers provided by the government to protect & secure
our important documents.
Under the ‘Technotsav-2016’, the BCA students organized various competitions like Blind
Programming, LAN gaming, Quiz, Poster Presentation, Paper Presentation, etc. The event
had recieved good response from the UG students. Dr. Umesh Kale distributed the prizes and
focused on the importance of programming as well as logic development..
Department of Botany:
Ecofriends – An Extension Activity
Every year the executive body of Ecofriends is constituted to perform various activities.
Installation program of the Executive Committee for the year 2016-17 was organized on 13th
August, 2016. This program was followed by the guest lecture of Dr. Kishore Rithe (Founder,
Satpuda Foundation, Amravati) on the topic “Plant Diversity of Melghat Forest”. Ecofriends
celebrated Friendship Day in a unique way on 8th August, 2016 while spreading the
awareness regarding “Environment Conservation”. The friendship bands with messages were
specially prepared by the members of Ecofriends. These bands were tied on the hands of all
teaching and non-teaching members of all the departments of the college and a saplings of
medicinally important plants were gifted to each department on this occasion.
A Street play was performed by the members of Ecofirends to generate awareness amongst
school children regarding the hazardous effects of POP and other unhealthy practices during
Ganesh festival on 1st September, 2016 in Rajeshwari School and Aadarsha Prathmik Shala.
This street play was specially set on this burning issue of environmental pollution during this
festival.
Matiche Ganpati Abhiyaan: Every year Ganesh idols are prepared with plaster of paris using
chemical colors which pollute our environment. Hence this campaign of clay idols was
organized to spread awareness regarding the hazardous effects of plaster of paris (PoP). The
inauguration of the campaign was held on 3rd September, 2016. Hon’ble Adv. Arunbhau
Shelke, President, was the chairman for the program and Hon’ble Hemantkumar Pawar,
Municipal Commissioner, Amravati Municipal corporation, Amravati was the inaugurator.

were alpha, beta, gamma and delta. In all nine students took part in the quiz. There were
rounds, round I MCQ round, round II buzzer round, round III rapid fire round. The questions
on chemistry were displayed with the help of an LCD projector. The team Gamma was the
First Prize winning team (Nisha Khatri, Minal Jane, Shivani Dhok) an
bagged the Second Prize (Alpesh Kothari, Prathmesh Karale). All the students greatly
enjoyed this event.

aspiring to pursue higher studies in chemistry, the department of chemistry has been
conducting aptitude test in chemistry every year as one of the departmental activities.

Wednesday, 28th September, 2016. It was an objective type multiple choice questions test.
There were sixty questions and the time allotted was one hour. The following students were

Science Awareness Program :
The Department of Chemistry had arranged a Science Awareness Program for the school
children of Shri Shivaji Multi Purpose High School, Amravati on Tuesday, 9th August,
2016 . It was a two-fold activity by the B.Sc. I and III year students for the school children.
The theme of the exhibition was to demonstrate syllabus oriented, conceptual, and basic
science experiments . The principal of the school, Dr. Vijay Muley inaugurated the program,
accompanied by Vice Principal Mr. Malvey, Incharge, Ms. Archana Ardak, Dr. G.N
Chaudhari, Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Dilip Hande and Dr. Anjali
Bodade. Mr. Akshay Sawai & Prathamesh Tiwari worked as volunteers for the program.
Seminar on “HEALTH & BEAUTY TIPS :
A seminar on “HEALTH & BEAUTY TIPS “ was arranged for Cosmetology students on
Saturday, August 6, 2016, The chief guest, Dr. Minakshi Rajurkar, Sukhakarta Skin City,
Amravati delivered a talk on nutritive diet and its correlation with beauty. She gave some
beauty tips with stres on hydrating the body. The program was arranged by Dr. Anjali
Bodade , course co-ordinator , COC in Cosmetology , Department of Chemistry ,Shri Shivaji
Science College Amravati. The vote of thanks was proposed by Vaishanavi Atkare.
Placement drive:
A Placement Drive was arranged on 24th August, 2016. The Placement Officer, Mr. Manoj
Kumar , State Project Coordinator , RMSA, Maharashtra, Mumbai was present who guided
the students on the topic “Selection and Working Citerion”. During the drive 6 students
were selected who later received appointment orders and these selected students joined the
jobs too.
Department of Environment Science
Visit to Drinking Water Treatment Plant:
A visit to the drinking water treatment plant on Mardi road was arranged to acquaint the
students of B.Sc. III with the treatment procedures followed by the Water Treatment Plant
during water purification .
Inauguration of Environmental Science Society:
On 10th August, 2016 the Environmental Science Society was inaugurated by Dr. A. B.
Bhosale, as the guest of honor.
Guest Lecture :
A Guest Lecture was delivered by Dr. Y. P. Lolge, SRTM University , Nanded, on the topic,
"Future Prospects of Environmental Science".

Students of M.Sc. II and B.Sc. III visited the National Environmental Engineering and
Research Institute, Nagpur on 12th August, 2016.
Participation in public awareness by use of clay idols for Ganesh Chaturthi Students from the department of Environmental Science participated in the awareness
campaign "Matiche Ganpati Baswa" for guiding and awakening the people about the use of
Ganesha idols prepared from mud and clay.
Ganesh Idol from Waste paper:
The students of M.Sc. prepared Ganpati idols from waste paper generated from the various
departments of the college.
Ozone Day Celebration : A Bicycle Rally was organized in collaboration with Environmental Cell and Green Berets on
September 16, 2016.
World Environmental Health Day: On 26th September, 2016, on the eve of the World Environmental Health Day a guest lecture
was organized for the female students on "Adolescence Issues in Females" , in the college
auditorium. Dr. Pranjal Sharma and Dr. Lalita Lokhande guided the students on health and
hygiene problems of women and prescribed solutions therein.
Breast Cancer Awareness Week: The Breast Cancer Awareness Week was organized from October 1-7, 2016 at PDMC,
Amravati in collaboration with Cancer Foundation, Amravati. A good number of students
actively participated in the activity and worked as volunteers in the Free Check-Up Camp, at
PDMC, Amravati.

Department of Microbiology
Educational Tour: The Department of Microbiology organized an educational tour of B. Sc III Microbiology
students along with Profs in charge Dr S. D. Patil and Miss Suwarna S. Mankar to CSIR-
National Environmental Engineering Research Institute Nagpur on 26th August, 2016.
Students visited and interacted with the scientists from different divisions, including
Environmental Health Division, Environmental Biotechnology and Genomics Division,
Environmental, Virology Cell, Water technology and Management Division, Wastewater
Technology Division and Air Pollution Control Division.
Students of B.Sc III (Sem V) visited Water Treatment Plant at Masod, Amravati on dated
29th July, 2016 under the guidance of Dr. N. N. Vidhale. All students visited the plant from
10.30 to 2.00 pm and observed and learned complete process of water treatment step by step
from aeration process to final chlorine treatment and storage.
Virtual Lectures
Virtual Lectures were arranged for Microbiology students in the department on 3/01/2017
and 10/01/2017 on Recent Trends in Biotechnology by Prof. A. M. Deshmukh, Director
Center for Cultivation of Microbiology, Osmanabad, M. S., India. The student unit of
department of Microbiology organized a guest lecture by Dr. S R Gulhane, Bhartiya
Mahavidyalaya, Amravati on the topic “Effectivity of Biofertilizers” on 31st August, 2016.
Department also organized inaugural ceremony of Microbiological Society. The chief guest
was Dr. Aarti Deshpande, Head Department of Microbiology, Shankarlal Khandelwal
College, Akola. The students unit conducted essay competition and Quiz competition. Ms
Gargi Chaudhari grabbed First prize in Essay competition and Ms Rakshita Ukesh Grabbed
First prize in Quiz competition.

The department of Biotechnology visited CICR Nagpur .The visit was arranged by Dr. C S
Ukesh & Mr. N K Agrawal on 26th August, 2016. The department of Biotechnology
arranged the inauguration “Biogen Society” & a guest lecture of Dr. Nandeshwar, Head &
Senior Scientist, CICR, Nagpur.

Social Activity: Students visited “Matoshri Vruddhashram” on 12th February, 2017. During the visit

C.O.C. and Astronomy & Astrophysics group on 4th March, 2017 and the students

Physics Society Inauguration and Guest Lecture : Physics Society was inaugurated on 17th September, 2016 at the hands of Prof.L.
N.Gawande, Rt. Head of Department. He delivered the popular lecture on Astronomy on this

alumni of the department, on 16th July, 2016.

Cycle Rally and Plastic Removal Drive Department of Zoology organized Cycle rally and Plastic removal drive at Chatri lake as a
part of Wild Week celebration on date 02nd October 2016 in collaboration with Melghat
Tiger Reserve Office and Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society, Amravati.
Teachers and students participated from the department in Cycle rally.
Department of Zoology celebrated Dr. Salim Ali Birth Anniversary programme in
collaboration with Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society, Amravati on 12th
December, 2016. During this program ‘Bird feeders’ were distributed to bird watchers at the
hands of Prof. Murtuza Ali. On 13th December, 2016 the Department conducted '
Bird Watching Programme' at Chatri Lake for U.G. and PG students. Students observed
migratory and residential bird species.

Inter Collegiate Basketball (Women) Tournaments 2016-17 Physical Education and Sports Department organized SGBAU Inter Collegiate Basketball
(Women) Tournaments 2016-17 on College Basketball Court from 16-09-2016 to 19-09-
2016. 37 Women Team participated in this tournament. The Inaugural ceremony was held in
which Dr. V. G. Thakare, Principal and guests like Shri Ganesh Jadhav, District Sports
Officer, Amravati, Dr. Madhuri Chendake, Chairman, SGBAU Basketball ( Men/Women)

the occasion and visited the tournaments. Ms Tejaswini Bambal, Mr. Saurabh Kalmegh and
Mr. Vinay Wagh of our college were selected for West Zone Inter University Handball

“Shivaji Olympiad” Basketball Men and Women district and division level tournaments
The Department also organized Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati’s “Shivaji
Olympiad” Basketball Men and Women district and division level tournaments and college
women and men team secured I place in Final tournaments. College Badminton (Men and
Women) team also secured I place in Final tournaments. Department also contributed in
organization of district, division and state level school tournaments of basketball, handball,
dodge ball and ball badminton.
Library and Network Resource Centre Book Exhibition: A Two-Day book exhibition was organized by Library on 12th & 13th
August, 2016 to mark the birth anniversary Dr S.R. Ranganathan, Father of Library Science.
The Book Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Neha Bhatkar, Lecturer from department of
Zoology of our college. On this occasion Principal, Dr V.G. Thakare and other staff members
graced the function by their presence. Local publisher/book sellers were invited for the
exhibition.

NCC A Program on “BHIM APP” Awareness and its Application was organized on the eve of
National Youth Day on 12th January, 2017 for NCC cadets. The chairman for this program

Samdekar, Manager, Central Bank of India, Amravati Branch delivered his lecture on e
cashless transaction and BHIM APP for NCC cadets.
On the eve of Army Day on 15th January, 2017 our cadets did Shramdaan for about two
hours by cleaning of the College Campus under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and cadets also
took a Pledge of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at the Hands of Honorable Principal Dr.
V.G.Thakare . About fifty cadets participated in this activity and gave the message to the
society. Tree plantation by 25 cadets at Tapovan on 1st July, 2016 to celebrate the
Environment Day. 25 NCC cadets participated in Blood Donation camp organized by NSS
on 3rd September, 2016.
Ozone day was celebrated by Environmental Cell on 16/9/2016. 25 NCC cadets participated
in the cycle rally.World Environmental Health day was celebrated on 26/9/2016. Dr Pranjal
Sharma delivered a lecture on the title “ Kali Umaltana”.
NSS
Cycle Distribution NSS unit of the college distributed bicycles to poor and needy students of the college on 15th
August, 2016 the auspicious independence day of India at the hands of Principal Dr. V.G.
Thakare and senior teachers of the college. This activity is run by collecting old news papers
and scraped old notebooks by NSS volunteers and selling them to raise funds. Two
meritorious and economically needy students were chosen for cycles.

Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan ‘Swacch Bharat…Swastha Bharat’ i.e. Clean India programme was followed by NSS
volunteers by cleaning the college campus as well as Amravati Railway station and given
message of cleanliness to society.
Blood donation camp Blood donation camp was organized on 03rd September, 2016 in college main hall which
was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Govind Kasat a renowned social worker of Amravati city
in the presence of our Principal Dr.V.G. Thakre. About 53 bottles of blood were collected by
the students and staff of our college.
Vittiya Saksharata Abhiyaan
NSS volunteers registered online for cashless economy project started by Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India under (VISAKA) Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan
and were trained in workshop at HVPM Amravati and counseled various target groups in
society.
Environmental awareness rally Environmental awareness rally was organized on Ozone day in collaboration with
Environmental Science department and NCC unit of college around city area to create
awareness in society.
Tree Plantation
Tree plantation program was conducted in college on 1st July, 2016 in college campus and
about 52 tree sapling was planted by various teaching and non teaching staff of the college.
Alumni Association: The executive committee has decided to provide, as a regular practice, financial support to
the poor and economically backward students of the college. The students were identified
through Guardian Teacher Scheme and amount of 38000/- rupees were distributed amongst
seven needy students. The alumni Sh Raut has delivered a lecture to the students about job
opportunities in Physics.

Deshmukh Memorial Science and Innovation
Activity Centre (SIAC) was laid on an
auspicious note at the hands of the former
chairman, Atomic Energy Commission (AES),
Government of India and the renowned scientist
Dr.Anil Kakodkar on 1st March, 2017.
The science centre is being established by Shri
Shivaji Education Society, Amravati with the
sponsorship of Rajiv Gandhi Science and
Technology Commission, Government of
Maharashatra.“The science and technology
development would lead the nation towards
overall progress in all walks of life”, were the
inspiring words of Dr. Kakodkar. The program

In his presidential speech, Hon’ble Adv.
Arunbhau Shelke expressed the fulfillment of the
dreams of the great visionary, the first union
agriculture minister Late Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh. His words were, ‘I am very satisfied to
have this centre being established in the tenure of present executive body”. The society has
donated 2.5 hectare land for building the science centre campus and will bear 25% of the
total expenditure for the construction and other developmental issues.
On this occasion, the life members of the society, principals of various colleges, professors
and staff members of S.G.B.A.U, Amravati, school head-masters, teachers, non-teaching
staff, students and elite citizens of the city were present. The function was anchored by Dr.
Kishor Fule and Prof. V. G. Bhamburkar proposed the vote of thanks.

February 2017. Dr. M. P. Pathak and Dr. V.
K. Menon of Nehru Science Centre were the
guests present on this occasion. Principal Dr. V. G. Thakare, IQAC coordinator Dr. H. S.
Lunge and the coordinator Dr. Prashant Mandlik were present on the dais. Dr. S. M. Khened
asked the teachers to inculcate the interest in reading scientific literature among the students.
He urged the students to develop experimental abilities and scientific attitude.
Celebration of National Science Day-2017 In commemoration of the discovery of Raman
Effect by Sir C. V. Raman the National Science
Day under the theme "Science and Technology
for Specially Abled Persons" was celebrated
with great fervor and enthusiasm.
On 27th
February, 2017, the program was
inaugurated by Dr. V.S. Deogaonkar, Principal
Dr. V. G. Thakare presided over the function,
and IQAC coordinator Dr. H. S. Lunge and the National Science Day program coordinator
Dr. Prashant Mandlik were present on the dais.
Under the Physical & Chemical Science theme
about 31 models were displayed by students in
this competition. 16 models from Life Science
by 19 Students were there in this category.
With posters from Life Sciences about twenty
two students of UG and PG had participated.

Auditorium was held on 10th
April 2017 at the
hands of Sh. Bhausaheb Pundkar, Minister of
Agriculture, Govt. of Maharashtra. On this

Shivaji Education Society, Amravati and other
executive members were present.
National Statistics Day celebrated: National Statistics Day-2017 was organized jointly by the Department of Statistics and
Regional Joint Director, Economics and Statistics, Amravati Region, on 29th
June, on the eve
of the birth anniversary of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. The inaugural session
was chaired by Adv. Arun B. Shelke, President, Shri Shivaji Education Society Amravati.
The Divisional Commissioner Shri Piyush Singh inaugurated the event and elaborated the

importance of statistical data in administration.
Shri Abhijit Bangar, Collector, Amravati District
was the chief guest. The Joint Director Shri
Prakash Dyare had initiated the activity. Prof. V.
G. Bhamburkar, elaborated on the significance
of Statistics. On this occasion two lectures were
organized for students on Job Opportunities in
Statistics and The Statistics Law, delivered by
Dr. H. S Lunge and Mrs. Bhakare. The Principal
Dr. V. G. Thakare delivered the inaugural speech. Dr. S. V. Choudhari andSh N. S.
Makeshwar and Dr. U.V. Kale takes efforts to conduct the programme. The teachers of
statistics of other colleges and students were present on the occasion.
Department of Botany
Scientific Film Show It was organized on 27
th February, 2017 in the
botany laboratory. 46 students were present for
the activity and they watched two films on Earth
and India’s Mars Mission.

Intercollegiate Seminar Competition: This competition was organized by the department of Chemistry on 27
th February, 2017 in
the A.V Theatre of the college for B.Sc II students on the topic ‘Solid State’. 16 students
from different colleges had participated in the

P.G.-Lecture series:
In memory of Late Dr. Nilay Bhamburkar, the
P.G. department of Chemistry organized a lecture
series for the P.G. Students. Dr. Nandakishor
Karde, Associate professor, P.G. Department of
Chemistry, R.T.M. Nagpur University delivered
his lectures on various topics.

Department of Physics-
Social Activity: Students were visited to “Matoshri Vrudhashram” on 12 February 2017. During the visit
students organized cleanliness drive in the Vrudhashram premises. Also, students have
interacted with the old people residing there and distributed the fruits and other items for
daily needs.
Competition on Presentation and Demonstration of Physics Experiments:
This competition was organized on 27th
February, 2017 in collaboration with
Amravati University Physics Teachers’
Association, Amravati for B.Sc I, II and
III students. Total 53 students from
different colleges affiliated to S.G.B. A.
U. Amravati participated in the
competition. The students explored and
illustrated the inventive methods for
understanding the principles of physics
through simple, innovative and illustrative
experiments.
Department of Statistics-
Intercollegiate Seminar Competition: The intercollegiate seminar competition was organized on 27
th February, 2017 on the eve of
National Science Day on the theme “Statistics in
Science and Technology”. Ten Students from four
colleges participated in the competition.All
participants presented seminar through ppt on LCD
projector. Dr. D. T. Deshmukh and Mrs. Vandana
Vidhale worked as judges.
First winner was Mr. Vishal Charthad, Second prize
was bagged by Ms. Manushri Choudhary of Brijlal
Biyani Science College, Amravti and Ku. Bhavana
Laware. The teachers and nonteaching staff took
huge efforts to organize the event successfully.
Department of Languages-
Essay Writing Competition:
This competition was organized to encourage the writing skills of the students and foster
scientific temper among them. Every year we receive tremendous response from the students
of different departments and colleges. This year the essay competition was held on 27th
February 2017. The students of undergraduate and post graduate courses participated in the
competition. Overall 50 entries were received from various colleges.
The topics for the essay competition were
1. The Need to Foster Scientific Temper.
2. National Saints’ Attitude to Science.
3.Pradnyachakshu Gulabrao Maharaj’s
Dr Dilip Arsad evaluated the essays. After evaluation, best essays were selected for prizes.
The first prize was bagged by Ms. Swapnil Wighe, a student of M.Sc. I. Ms Ujwala Pakade
won the second prize. To honor the achievement of winners, college organized a Prize

Eco-tourism & Wildlife Photography: Organized a two-day residential “Nature Camp cum Workshop” at Shahanur Interpretation
Centre, Narnala Wildlife Sanctuary, Akot Division of Melghat Tiger Reserve on 25-26
February, 2017. In all forty students along with
faculty members of COC-EWP course actively
participated in the Nature Camp cum Workshop.
During this two-day camp students enjoyed the
nature walk, Narnala Fort sightseeing, Vegetation
Monitoring, Bird Watching, Adventure Activities,
Hands on Photography, GPS demonstration and
technical session of the workshop. The Wildlife
technical session and adventure activities session
were led by Wildlife and Mountaineering experts of
the region Dr. Jayanat Wadatkar, Dr.Shrikant Warhekar, Mr. Susil Raut, Mr. Manish
Dhakulkar and Mr.Gourav Kadu.
Great Backyard Bird Count: Department also conducted Great Backyard Bird
Count (GBBC) program on 13th
February, 2017 in
collaboration with Wildlife and Environment
Conservation Society, Amravati. In all 25 students
from the department participated. Total 82 birds
were enlisted by birders during GBBC .
Department of Environmental Science Scientific Rangoli Competition:This competition was organized on 27
th & 28
th February,
2017. The theme was Science & Technology through
Rangoli. Total 23 students of our college participated

Department of Geology Rock and Mineral Show:
This show was organized by the department of Geology on 27th
& 28th
February, 2017. The
aim of the show was to expand the knowledge of rocks and minerals available in India.
Almost all the college students and staff members attended the show. The show was
inaugurated at the hands of NSD Convener Dr. Prashant Mandlik in the gracious presence of
IQAC Coordinator Dr. H. S. Lunge. The staff members and the students of the department
were actively engaged in the show and they introduced each and every rock and the mineral
to all the visitors.
Library-Science: Book Exhibition: The library had organized a two-day book exhibition on
27th
& 28th
February, 2017, especially of the reference books available in the library. The
librarian explained the importance of reference book and their types to the visitors.

The National Youth Day on the occasion of Birth
Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and the Birth
Anniversary of Rashtramata Jijau was celebrated on
12th
January 2017. Dr V. G. Thakare, Principal, was
the president for the function. The guest of honour
Dr. D. G. Wakade, Director, P. R. Pote Educational
Society, Amravati delivered the informative speech
and interacted with the students. On this occasion 48
students of junior and senior college with
remarkable achievements in Games and Sports, Cultural, NCC and NSS activities at state and
national level were felicitated at the hands of Dr V. G. Thakare and Dr. D. G. Wakade.
ANNUAL SOCIAL GATHERING- SHIVOTSAV 2017 Annual social gathaering ”Shivotsav-2017” of the
college was organized on 30th
and 31st
January 2017.
Hon’ble Mr Pasha Patel, Ex MLC and senior
agriculturist, was the ingaurator and Hon’ble Dr.
Suresh Thakare, Vice-president, Shri Shivaji
Education Society, Amravati, presided over the
function. The other dignitaries on the dais were

Dr. V. G. Thakare, Principal, and Dr. S. P. Gawande, Convener. In this program total 55 Gold
medals were sponsored to meritorious students of Junior college, UG and PG.

NCC Activities. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organized for cleaning
of college campus on dated 16th
April 2017. The
principal of the college gave the pledge of Swachh
Bharat Campaign to cadets and in his speech
appealed not to get involved in activities that create
litter. Twenty five cadets along with sub major Singh
and Patil took active participation in the Abhiyan.
On 17th
Apri,l 2017, cadets actively participated in
road traffic control.
On the morning of 18th
April, 2017, NCC cadets led by ANO Lt. N.H. Bansod, gave a power
point presentation for the people who were in queue for reservation of railway tickets, about
Cashless India and BHIM APP at Amravati Railway station. On this occasion Shri Katakgale,
station incharge was present.

Chaired Sessions in Conferences:
Dr.N.V.Bhatkar chaired the session in National Conference on ‘Recent Advances and
opportunities in Biological Sciences’ organized by Late Pundlikrao Arts, Commerce and
Science, College, Shirpur (Jain) on 17th March 2017.
Dr.G.A.Wagh presented his research paper entitled “ Spatial distribution and Habitat Choice
of Two Sympatric Species of Hornbills in Vidarbha, Maharashtra, Central India’’ in the 7 th
International Hornbill Conference, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia during 16th
to 18th
May
2017. The 7 th
International Hornbill Conference witnessed the participation of 150 delegates
comprising of hornbill experts, hornbill researchers, hornbill conservators and hornbill lovers
from 15 countries.
Dr.G.A.Wagh delivered a guest lecture on ‘Status & Distribution of Sparrow in Backyard
and its Conservation’ on 20th March 2017 in the RDIK College, Badnera Rly.
Dr. Sangita Ingole was felicitated for her active participation in Walkathon on the eve of
Women's Day organised by the Amravati Gynecological Association, Amravati.

Ms. Aruna U. Kakde chaired the session in National conference held at North Maharashtra
University, Jalgaon on 23-24 January, 2017
Mr. K.J. Gawai was awarded the M.Phil. degree.
Superannuation of Teachers: Ms. Kavita Daware, a junior college lecturer in Marathi from Languages Department,
retired on 28th
February, 2017 after her service period of 31 years. She was a popular
teacher amongst her students. She had contributed through articles and books about Marathi
literature and involved herself in the propagation of the use of Marathi in administration.
Dr. Prakash W. Deotare, Head, Department of Botany, retired on 31
st May 2017 after 33
years of service in the college. He was the member of IQAC and was engaged in research
activities. During his tenure as the head the Botany department had organized two national
conferences and many other academic events.
Sh Arun Dhobale , lecturer in junior college in chemistry retired on 30th
June 2017. He has
served 32 years in Shri Shivaji Education Society. He has contributed more in improving the
teaching quality and result of twelfth class.
Future Events: 1. One Day Workshop on NAAC Accreditation Awareness on 23
rd November 2017, jointly
organized with IQAC, SGBAU.
