ANNUAL REPORT 2015-16
It is my proud privilege to extend, on behalf of college family and members of managing committee, a
hearty welcome to you all on this very special and pious occasion of Annual Convocation of this
shrine of higher learning. I deem it an honor to read before you the Annual Report of this institute for
the year 2015-16.
It is an honor for all of us to have such an elegant personality with us on this function. At the very
outset, I would like to extend my warm welcome to all of you. But before I Proceed to bring forth the
record of our achievements during the year under report, I express heartfelt gratitude to worthy chief
guest of the day, Dr. Kulbir Singh, Joint Secretary, UGC who in spite of his busy schedule, gave his
consent to come here .
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome this versatile genius and multifaceted personality Dr. Kulbir
Singh, Joint Secretary, UGC born on January 01, 1961 at Ferozepur, in Punjab. He has completed his
schooling from Uttar Pradesh Board of School Education. After schooling, he took admission in Agra
University for his graduation in Science stream and completed in first division in 1980. He passed his
Master degree in Statistics from the same University in 1982 and stood second in order of merit in the
University. After post graduation, he joined the Institute of Social Sciences, Agra University (now Dr.
B.R. Ambedkar University) as Statistician. He later worked in the National Institute of Public
Cooperation & Child Development, under the then Ministry of Social Welfare (Now Ministry of Social
Justice and empowerment), New Delhi; National Board of Examinations, New Delhi; Associated
Agriculture Development Foundation, New Delhi on different posts from 1983 to 1986 and monitored
Integrated Child Development Scheme, helped NBE and AIIMS in Development of Questions Banks in
Medical subjects and designed experiments and analysed outputs of Onion, Garlic and Groundnut.
Meanwhile he acquired Master of Economics degree from Agra University, as a Private candidate.
In 1986, he joined Association of Indian Universities as Research Associate and provided his
services for Development of Question Banks, mainly in agriculture subjects and worked on Research
Projects, particularly relating to subjective involved in evaluation of conventional papers and
Examination Reforms. Later, he rendered his services to the Government of National Capital Territory
of Delhi, Labour Department as Statistical Officer and handled the jobs of Compilation of Labour
Statistics under various Labour legislations, Formulation, Implementation and Monitoring of Plan
Schemes in respect of Labour Welfare Sub - Sector, Report writing. He contributed in drafting “Five
Year Plan 1992-97” and Annual Plans” (1992-93 ; 1993-94 ; 1994-95; 1995-96; and 1996-97) for the
“Labour Welfare Sub-Sector” in respect of NCT of Delhi during his stay at Labour Department,
Government of NCT of Delhi as Statistical Officer. He worked as Officer on Special Duty to the
Labour Commissioner and Director Employment, NCT of Delhi. During his stay in the Labour
Department in NCT of Delhi, he monitored the working of Industrial Tribunals and Labour Courts and
most of Legislations relating to Labour welfare sub-sector. While working in the Department of Urban
Development, Government of NCT of Delhi, he rendered his services as Assistant Director and
supervised Secretariat & legislative work, replies to Vidhan Sabha questions relating to Urban
Development (Local Self Govt.) Sector including Water and Power, Parliament Questions, Assurances
etc. He drafted the Delhi Water Board Bill, 1997 which became an Act in 1998 through which Delhi Jal
Board came into being.
Before joining the University Grants Commission as Joint Secretary, he rendered his services to the
Union Public Service Commission as Joint Director where he dealt with confidential work relating to
construction of test booklets for various Examinations, including prestigious Civil Services
Examinations, conducted by UPSC and syllabi revision etc. He also supervised scrutiny relating to pre
& post examination stage work in respect of Defence Forces (NDA & CDS), Railways( SCRA),
Geologists’, Indian Forest Services, Para Military Forces (SSB, CRPF, CISR, ITBP, BSF)
examinations, Supply and Monitoring of Application Forms, dissemination of information to
candidates as Public information Officer under the Right to information Act, 2005. He played a pioneer
role in IT penetration in the Examination system of the UPSC through which online registration of
application and conduct of online examination started in the UPSC during his tenure there between
1999 and 2015. During this period he also acquired his Ph.D. degree from MJP Rohilkhand University,
Bareilly in 2007
He joined the University Grants Commission as Joint Secretary on January 06, 2015 and he was
assigned the job of liquidating the pendency, smooth functioning of Northern Regional College Bureau
of UGC which is catering the needs of the colleges located in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab (which perhaps was the most difficult job in UGC
at that time). With the utmost dedication to the organisation and through his able leadership, Dr. Kulbir
Singh has completed the tasks assigned to him. In addition he is looking after the Development of
Women’s Studies Centres in the Universities and College and Capacity Building of Women managers
in Higher Education. He has been given additional charge of Western regional Office of the UGC under
which colleges of populous states like Maharashtra and Gujarat fall. WRO, Pune also caters to the
colleges located in Goa state. He is working as Joint Secretary (Coordination), UGC also and has
successfully coordinated participation of foreign students during the celebrations of first International
Day of Yoga (June, 21 2015) at Rajpath wherein participants from 84 nations performed yoga and for
this contribution he was appreciated by the Govt. of India. He also coordinated development of
National Institutional ranking Frame Work for Universities and Colleges, which has since been
implemented and first national ranking is scheduled to be released by Govt. of India on 04 th April,
2016.
College Profile:
Sir, Established with the prime aim to uplift and empower the girl students, Shanti Devi Arya Mahila
College, Dinanagar (Accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC & STAR College by DBT, Govt. of India) in
second cycle is celebrating Golden Jubilee Year. It is a post graduate multi faculty only women
college in the border backward area with 3200 students, 92 teachers and 35 members of non teaching
staff. This shrine of knowledge has expanded and developed enviously since its very inception and has
carved a niche for itself in the educational circles. Endeavoring to stay abreast with the demands of
contemporary world of education, the institution has to its credit 45 under graduate and post graduate
courses, including degrees and diploma. The Govt. of India has given 8 vocational programmes for
unemployed youth to make them job-oriented and self sufficient. These have now been converted by
the Govt. into ITIs.. Sir, Dinanagar is surrounded by 106 villages having 50% of female population and
40% SC/BC classes, and is acknowledged as under privileged legislative reserve constituency for Sc
candidate.
Management Committee, I feel proud in mentioning here that the college is treading towards path of
success and glory and it’s all because of words of encouragement and undaunting support of our
member of management Swami Sadanand Ji(President), Sh. Dharam Indu Gupta Ji ( Secretary ),
Sh. Anil Gupta Ji, Smt. Namita Gupta Ji, Smt. Anju Gupta Ji, Mr. Vishal Gupta Ji, Sh. Inder
Gupta Ji, Sh. Gandharav Raj Mahajan Ji(Principal). We are highly indebted to founders of this
college Swami Sarvanand Ji, Sh.Chander Gupta Ji, Sh. Balraj Gupta Ji, Chaudhary Jai Muni Ji
, Sh. Jai Chand Ohri Ji, Sh. Vidhya Dhari Ji for their ever lending assistance to uplift women
education in this backward, border and remote area. The college is committed to impart holistic
education focusing on the overall development of the personality of women through academics, sports
and co-curricular activities. Seminars, workshops, Conferences and Exhibitions are the regular feature
of its UG/PG Department. The institution is making every possible effort to uplift the poor and down
trodden section of the area by educating their women folk, by encouraging them to realize their
potential to face mind boggling situations of the world. College has justified the faith and trust of its
founder patrons by synchronizing ethnicity with modernity. It takes pride in inculcating the spirit of
self-confidence, perseverance and analytical thinking in the students beside fulfilling the aim of
providing excellent facilities for learning and achieving scholastic heights. Quality education is its
motto and excellence Its goal, we are fortunate to have the visits of the eminent personalities in our
institute who are no less than the pole slars and who, with their pearls of wisdom have always been
enlightening us to work with irrepressible will and determination, coordinated planning and efforts.

to get ‘A’ grade By NAAC. Sir, it is worth mentioning here that the college has been given ‘Star
College’ Status by HRD ministry Govt. of India.
Academics:-
This is NAAC VISIT/ STAR COLLEGE and multi-faculty post graduate women college in Distt.
Gurdaspur affiliated to GNDU, Amritsar and is providing teaching in the subjects related to faculty of
Arts, Commerce, Science and professional courses. The subject taught include English, Punjabi,
Hindi, History, Sanskrit, Political Science, Economics, Maths, Computer Science, Home Science
,Music ,Sociology, Fine Arts, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Education, fashion-designing and
Computer Application, Psychology. The college is running 8 B.sc and 6 professional Courses Viz,
BCA, BBA, B.sc(IT), B.Sc (Bio-Tech), B.Sc (FD), B.Com(Prof.) and also 9 PG Deptt. and 5
Diplomas ,13 Add-on courses and 8 VTP course given by the govt. of India in ITI stream. It is matter
of great pride that college has been granted two B.Voc courses in (i) Software Development (ii)
Financial Market and Services. We are also conducting the PMKVY projects in various subjects. It
is a matter of pride that the college has every course that the students of the area and around aspire to
do. Students can opt. for MA English, Punjabi ,Hindi, Economics, Political Science, M.Sc in
Computer Science& IT and FD and M.Com at Post graduate level and also PG diploma in Dress
Designing, fashion Designing, Computer Application and UG Diploma in Stitching and Tailoring,
Diploma in cosmetology at under Graduate level. UGC has given 13 add on courses i.e.
Communication Skills, Apparel Designing, Cosmetology, Taxation, E-Commerce, Bio-Technology,
Travel and Tourism, Web Designing, Internet, Bio-informatics and interior decoration, The College
has well qualified. Meritorious and dedicated staff with 13 PhDs, 26 M.Phil’s And
MCA/M.Tech/B.Tech degree holders and other Post Graduates are NET qualified. The institution feels
proud in bringing excellent results with limited resources in a poor area. Academically, it has 94
students in merit List of 2015 and 40 Students is among top 10 Positions of the university.

Besides, Add-on Courses, UGC has also given vocational Courses in office Mgt. Computer
application, Grant for Sanskrit spoken Centre, Women hostel, Seminars, Sports Stadium and Remedial
Scheme, Human Rights foundation course and Non Resident students centre as well as for coaching
classes of minorities under 12(B) and NAAC Accredited .

Seminars
A UGC sponsored National Seminar was organized by Punjabi department on the topic
“Madhya Kaleen Punjabi Sahitya Adhyan te Adhyapan” held on 15th- 16th Nov, 2014.
A NAAC sponsored National Seminar was organized by English department on the topic “Role
of Governance, Leadership and Management” on 24th and 25th Nov, 2014.
A UGC sponsored National Seminar was organized by Computer Science department on the
topic “Upcoming Trends in IT” held on 14th February, 2015. Inaugural speech was given by
Dr. Sona Jharia Minz, Profeesor, School of Computer & System Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru
University, Delhi. She started her speech by congratulating the Principal Mrs. Nirmal Pandhi
and faculty of Computer Department. Her appreciation words for taking initiative for national
Seminar on “Upcoming Trends in IT” again motivated the department faculty for further
ignition.
UGC sponsored National Seminar on Human Rights( for the promotion of ethics and human
values) was organized on 14th march 2015 Sh. G.S Dhillon ,Senior Civil Judge , Gurdaspur
was chief guest.Dr Davinder Singh Prof. Law Deptt Punjab University Chandigarh,Dr Suresh
Brambhat Principal H.K Arts College ,Ahmedabad, Dr Gurjeet Singh, Dean Law Deptt
G.N.D.U, Amritsar,Dr Sunila Singh Women’s right and human right activist. New Delhi was
the prominent personalities participated in the seminar.
A UGC sponsored National Seminar was organized by Botany department on the topic
“Disaster Management: Need of the Hour” held on 27th March, 2015. Dr. Ravi Kumar,
Principal, BCET, Gurdaspur gave the inaugural address, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Former Vice
Chancellor, MDS university, Rajasthan was key note speaker and Dr. Renu Bhardwaj,
Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University gave
presidential remarks during the session. Dr. Rabinder Nath Padhi, Director General,,Geological
Survey of India Chaired the first technical session. Dr. Sudhir Mahotra, Chairperson, IEE,
pathankot and Gurdaspur,
UGC sponsored National Seminar on the topic 'Stress Management in Vedas' was organized by
Sanskrit Deptt. on 4th & 5th April, 2015. Dr. C.D. Shastri (Sahitya Shiromani) was the chief
guest of the seminar Dr. Naresh Dhiman (Principal, Doaba College) presided over the function.
Dr. Davinder Singh (Prof. in Psychology) was the key-note speaker Near about 75 scholars
presented their papers.
UGC Sponsored national seminar on Indian Foreign Policy:Continuity and change was
organized on 24 oct 2015.ASP Dr Akhil Choudary was the Chief Guest,Eminent Scholars Dr
Kuldip Singh ,Dr Jagroop singh sekhon,Dr Rajesh Kumar,Dr Harmeet Singh,all from Deptt of
Political scienec G.N.D.U .Dr Suresh Kumar Chadha,Business school of economics,Punjab
university Chandigarh participated in the seminar.

Dinanagar organized Aghaaz “Techzone Science Fest “2015 supported by DBT, ministry of
science and Technology on 19th sept. 2015 under “star college scheme”, to apprise the science
students about latest technologies innovation, develop, research and practical skills and to
develop communication skills by organizing events like, Quiz, Scientific speaking contest,
poster presentation, Model Display(Working & Still), Scientific Rangoli for level I (10+1, +2)
, Level –II (B.Sc. Classes) . The chief guest during the function was Dr. Renu Bharadwaj

Superannuation Ceremony of Mrs. Saroj Pandhi, Deptt. of Economics was held in the college.
“Istri Sammelon” was also organized on Rishi Nirwan Divas on the behalf of Istri Arya Smaj,
Dinanagar. Prof. Laxmi Kanta Chawla was the Chief Guest.
“Hindi Divas” was also organized by PG Hindi Deptt. Principal Nirmal Pandhi was chief
guest and vice Principal Mrs. Ratna Sharma was the guest of honour .
“Sadar Patel Jyanti” was also celebrated by our college. A seminar, Oath ceremony and A
rally were the main feature of it.
Hostel Night was celebrated to welcome new comers; a cultural show was also organized.
An examination was held by SGPC in our college in which the scholarships were distributed
by S.Ajit Singh Makkar, Chief of SGPC.
Talent hunt competition was organized by fine arts deptt.
Janamashtami Function was organized by Hindi Deptt. on 4th September, 2015 with great
pomp and show. DSP Kamal Sharma was the Chief Guest.
Career Counseling for the +1 and +2 students by Pb. Govt inMay, 2015.
A Personality Development Workshop conducted by NIIT, Pathankot.
A pre-placement test has been conducted by NIIT, Dinanagar for graduate and post graduate
students.
A lucky draw was also conducted. Approximately 14 prizes i.e. Washing Machine,
Microwave, Mixer Juicer, Tab were distributed among students.
Sports Day was also organized. The Chief Guest was. There were so many games for teachers
and students.
Matribhasha Diwas under the guidelines of UGC also organized. The Chief Guest was. Slogan
Writing, Declamation Contest and Extension lecture were the main features of this
programme.
Infrastructure:-
The college has splendid and aesthetically designed building in an area of 1,50,000 Sq.yds. There is
separate science , commerce, Arts, IT, Bio-Technology block , Edifice of 30 labs, Hi-tech seminar
hall, A.C. Auditorium, Indoor stadium, Gymnasium hall, smart Class rooms, Language Lab,
Multimedia Labs, with latest gadgets. A computerized Library with 24000 volumes for UG and
PG students, Research Centre, Sports Complex, Computer centre, PG Block, Administrative
Block, Shardananad hall and Triple story women hostel built in green clean and serene
environment are the facilities available for students along with fleet of buses for students
convenience who hail from far off villages, more to it, 24 hrs. Power supply and internet facility
with WI-Fi is there in the campus. The campus is also under surveillance of CCTV cameras and
public address system, sound system, solar heating system, Light System LPG Gas plant. Water
coolers with purifiers installed in all departments. Digital boards, Lease line are too the facilities
given to all considering them as the dire needs.

The college runs under the able stewardship of Mrs. Nirmal Pandhi who throughout her life has been
toiling sincerely to fulfill her dreams by performing them as duties .She has been honoured with
accolades and bouquets by various organizations .She has been chosen as:

Beside Academics Participation in Co-curricular, activities is must as it enhances our skill, sharpens

Scholarship Obtained:-
Our students are recipients of Punjab Govt. Merit Scholarship, Minority, SC/BC Scholarship (250
Students received), Jindal foundation Scholarship, given by GNDU. Other than this our managing
committee too extends its help by giving fee concession to 500 poor and describing candidates.
University Toppers are given almost free education.
NSS/ NCC News:
NCC:-
NCC is a national organization which has helped in inculcation in the cadets a spirits of courage,
confidence, self-reliance, selfless service, a feeling of patriotism, faith in oneself, power of thought
and adjustment which are essential to make the youth disciplined and dutiful.
Our college is running 52 cadets Platoon for the development of the student community. With its
motto of "Unity And Discipline" the NCC has become instrumental in molding the character and
imparting in our students a dynamic outlook.
Our students celebrated International Yoga Day on 19 June 2015 at college campus and on 21 June
2015 at SSM Collge, Dinanagar. Principal Nirmal Pandhi, Mrs. Ratna Sharma, Dr. Kulwinder Kaur,
Dr. Anjna Malhotra, Mrs. Sangeeta Puri, Mrs. Deepak Jyoti, Miss Bhawana and Mr. Mohit Aggarwal
Attended one day yoga camp. Prabhu ji from Dayanand Math Dinanagar was the yoga instructor in
this camp.
Tree Plantation was done by Commanding Officer Col. Vishwajeet in college campus on 13 March
2015.
Lecture of Commanding Officer Col. Vishwajeet on the Value of NCC was organized by NCC Dept.
of the College on the same day.
Blood Donation camp was organized by NCC Dept. with association with NSS, Red Cross and Youth
Welfare Dept. In this camp NCC Cadet donated blood and also performed various duties assigned by
the organizers of the camp.
25 cadets attended ATC Camp held at Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Khankot, Amritsar from
6st to 15th July 2015. Cadets won second position in Group Song, Tug of War, and race competitions.
Cadet Komal won 2nd prize in solo song.
Dr. Anjna Malhotra(ANO) attended ATC camp at Tibri with 7 Pb. Girls Bnn from 27 July to 5 th Aug,
2015.
16 cadets successfully completed NCC Pre RD Selection Camp at Dhariwal from 7th Sep. to 16 Sep.
2015. Cadet Simran was selected for Pre RD selection camp held at Amritsar from 22nd Sep. to 2nd
Oct. 2015
Dr. Anjna Malhotra along with 18 cadets is going to attend NIC camp at Ropar from 7 th Jan to 18th
Jan, 2016.
28 NCC cadets will appear for “B” Certificate exam and 5 cadets for “C” Certificate Exam this year.
NCC Commanding Officer Col. Vishwajeet assigned a project to celebrate World Forestry Day on 21
March 2016 to our college.
NSS:-There are five units of NSS in SDAM college run under the guidance of five programme
officers, rendering service of society this Deptt. NSS Deptt. organizes 10 one day NSS Camps under
the regular activity each year, National Youth Day, Republic day, International Women day, word
health day, word environment day, world No Tobacco day, world population day, Sadhbhawna Divas,
NSS Day, Blood donation are also celebrated. Grants received from various resources.
Red Cross:
On 20-21 Sept. twelve volunteers of Red Cross Unit participated in two days camp in Anandpur
Sahib which was organized by Punjab red cross unit Chandigarh in the memory of Bhai Kanahiya
ji. Vandana and Manpreet kaur got prizes in painting and music items.
From 24th to 30th Dec. 2015 a group of seven volunteers participated in Red Cross camp held in
Amritsar. Volunteers won the best service prize. Sushmita got best volunteer prize.
On 13th Feb 2016 fifty five volunteers of Red Cross Unit participated in cleanliness programme at
Sherpur village under Bharat Swachh Abhiyaan.Volunteers thoroughly cleaned the streets of the
village.Volunteers also organized a Chetna ralley in the village to aware the villagers about the
importance of cleanliness. Principal Mrs. Nirmal Pandhi, Sh.K.K.Saini from Red Cross Society,
Chandigarh, Sh.N.P Singh President Distt. NRI Sabha, Sh. Ravinder Singh President Shaheed
Sainik Parivar Suraksha Parishad addressed the volunteers.
A word to my Students:-
We feel elated that the session had been full of rejoicings by bringing us the best of results in
academics, Co- Curricular achivies and sports. It had been possible only through strenuous efforts and
hard work on your part. A brilliant future avails your personality. I wish you best of everything. May
the almighty bless you and sprinkle upon you the showers of success. May you bring name, fame and
glory to yourself, your parents, institute and country of which you are worthy citizens.
My Gratitude:
I feel highly obliged to thank benefactors of this institute who have always stood like strong pillars,
supporting the institute and always inspiring to cross every stumbling block to reach pinnacles of glory
and success. The college is treading ahead bringing laurels and I assure of maintaining the same status
of prestige and glory in future too. I am highly indebted to members of Governing body who give us
their valuable advice in regard to administrative, financial and policy matters from time to time. My
sincerest thanks to UGC for its aids and grants to the college, thanks to G.N.D.U. Amritsar, for their
solid guidance at every step, Punjab Govt. for their support to SC/BC students. I also extend my
Gratitude to Distt. Administration, elite of the town for their Co-operation at every step. My special
thanks to faculty members who with their diligent, constant sincere efforts have brought laurels in the
