Newsletter Term 3 week 6 KidsMatter News KidsMatter is an Australian mental health and wellbeing initiative set in primary
schools and in early childhood education and care services – like preschools,
kindergartens and day care centres.
It’s not a program, but a framework that helps these places take care of all their
mental health needs.
At Tucker Road Bentleigh Primary School we are in the beginning stages of
implementing this framework.
To find out more about KidsMatter, we are inviting parents to attend the second
session on Tuesday September 8 at 7pm in the School Hall.
2015 Concert Details The end of year concert has been booked to take place at the Kingston Centre on
Wednesday December 2. The format has changed slightly in the hope that it will
accommodate more parents/carers and siblings who may wish to attend each
performance. The Matinee show will consist of students in years P-2 and the evening
show will consist of students in years 3-6. Graduation is a separate event this year
which will raise the profile and also allow more members of each family to attend the
formal graduation ceremony; this is scheduled to take place on December 10 at
Bentleigh Secondary College. The graduation dinner and disco will occur on the
evening of December 15 in the school hall allowing more time for the students to
enjoy the disco; more graduation information will follow. The year 6 students will
still perform a song to open and close the concert.
PFA News A HUGE thank you to the ‘Parents and Friends Association’, for the assistance in the
purchasing of 7 portable ‘Teacher Literacy Centres/Whiteboard’s to be used by the
5/6 staff in the SOL centre and our extra year 1 classroom. The teachers are most
delighted and have already put them to great use! We are so lucky to have you all
working tirelessly fundraising for the school!
Infectious Diseases Over the past month a number of our students have come down with infectious
conditions such as chicken pox. It is crucial that parents notify the school when their
chid has any infectious condition. This is not only to manage the spread but we have
a number of students at Tucker Road who have medical conditions or are receiving
medical treatment that these diseases could have serious consequences. For the
continued wellbeing of these students in particular we plead for parents to notify the
school of any contagious condition their child may have picked up.
3-6 Student Lead Conferences These conferences will be taking place in Week 8 of this term (31 August – 3
September). Bookings once again will be through the online booking
systems. Students in Years 3-6 will all bring home an information sheet regarding
booking and updates will be provided through Konnective.
Have an exciting week!

Year 3-6 Swimming Program
Dear Parents/Carers
For our program this year we are using a rotating timetable. We are hoping that this addresses the problems that a set timetable
caused in the past. Please refer to the times below for your child/ren’s schedule.
Please remember that parents, carers and others are welcome to attend the swimming sessions as visitors. Also please remember
that all visitors are to view the sessions from the spectator seating – no visitors are to be on the pool deck. All information for the
swimming instructors and inquiries are to be provided via the classroom teacher.

Tucker Road Extra Curricula Activities
Before School, Lunchtime & After-School
Over a number of years Tucker Road has run a number of lunchtime and after school programs. The main
two reasons for doing this is to firstly provide opportunity for the interests and talents students have. The
second reason is to help students manage their time and themselves – not all students want or can cope with
fifty minutes of unstructured play that lunchtimes present. Our lunchtime programs are mostly run by the
teaching staff with a few user pay programs on offer. There has also been an increase in the number of after
school programs the school is facilitating – all these are user pay programs. As a school we believe we have
a role in helping provide in as many ways as possible for our students – some of this we can do inside school
hours and done by our staff, other parts we need to look at what commercial providers can offer.
We would like to bring to everyone’s attention new lunchtime and after school electronics and chess
opportunities through Kids Unlimited. Please refer to the flyer in this and other newsletters.
The table below outlines the extra curricula programs run at Tucker Road either through the school or by an
external contractor.
