BACKGROUNDThe Abbottabad Campus became functional in July 2001,and the first academic session started in September 2001.This campus is ideally situated and built on 308 Kanals ofland. The natural climatically advantages of Abbottabadcity, large land area, sports and recreational facilities andabove all, a secure and friendly environment have allcombined to make the Abbottabad campus more of aresort. The campus is an ideal place to study, live and work. The majority of the campus area encompasses parks,
orchards, lush green grounds, blossoming flower beds andtrees. Set in these environs with panoramic backgroundview of Thandiani and Galiat mountains makes CIITCampus at Abbottabad, an awe inspiring modern day placeof learning.

BACKGROUNDThe first academic session started with student strength of 121and only three undergraduate programs. Soon CIIT Abbottabademerged as a leading institute of the region. From a modestbeginning with three departments and 121 student strength,
three undergraduate programs and physical structurecomprising old World-War II barracks, emerged the leadinginstitute of the region which has now 11 departments, a studentstrength of 5560 (46 fold increase), 17 undergraduate programs,21 graduate programs, a qualified faculty strength of 490including 165 PhDs and 49 modern laboratories. Our physical
infrastructure emulates the best educational institutions ofcountry. Since 2006, CIIT has consistently earned the singularhonor of being ranked among top 10 institutions of highereducation in the country. Recent HEC ranking has placed CIIT at# 2 on research output basis during 2013, which is a greatachievement.

WELCOME TO SPSEstablished in 2005, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences(SPS)formerly known as Department of pharmacy is one of theyoungest entre which contributes vitally to the research output ofnot only COMSATs but also of the country. The research carried
out at SPS is regularly published in international journals ofrepute. SPS offers postgraduate programs leading to the degreesof Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and (Doctorate of Philosophy)PhD in the dynamic fields of Pharmacy and pharmaceuticalSciences, and an exciting five-year undergraduate programleading to the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy.
Our postgraduate programs emphasize breadth of understandingthe core areas of Pharmacy and pharmaceuical Sciences inaddition to culminating in theses demonstrating mastery in oneof the many research directions that are pursued at SPS. Thethrust areas in Pharmacy include Clinical pharmacy.

SPSThe total number of papers published by the faculty at the start
of SPS was about of which about 200 were in ISI listed
journals with an impact factor of about292.Many of theother papers were in good journals even though they are notlisted by ISI. There were also a number of papers ininternational, regional and national conference proceedings andchapters in books and complete books.
A regular seminar series is being run since the middle of the firstsemester of SPS. There have been a number of outside speakersand many SPS faculty members have presented talks in thisseries. The School has also had a number of visitors.

RESEARCH CENTRE IN SPSCenter for Pharmaceutical Care
The center will provide an experiential
practice site for fourth and final yearPharmD students, allowing them to perform
comprehensive medication reviews via the
telephone,complete patient chart quarterly
reviews, and speak to patients regarding
adherence issues.

Center for Natural Products, Drug
Discovery and DevelopmentThe centre will foster early-stage drug discovery by
providing infrastructure, chemical libraries and expertise to
screen for disease-relevant targets and molecules that
modulate target activity. A compound identified during thediscovery program will serve as the starting point for
development campaigns. The proposed centre will help to
carry out a comprehensive research on various aspects of
medicinal plants of this area with a joint venture of
pharmacognosists, pharmacologists, phytochemists and
biotechnologists. This research will ultimately contribute to
program for drug discovery nationally and internationally. It
will also help to furnish scientifically standardized herbal
medicine in the country.

Center for Drug Delivery and
Nanotechnology
Biological drugs and drug delivery research are
closely linked, because better drug delivery
systems are needed for effective use of biological
drugs (e.g., recombinant proteins, genes, siRNAs,
and cell therapies). This centre will actively develop
advanced drug delivery systems by researching drug
conjugates and nanoformulations; polymer, lipid,
peptide, and protein
biopharmaceutical protein engineering and chemical
conjugation; and self-assembly and processing of
nanomedicines. Monitoring drug distribution will
include the development of new methods for the
measurement of drug pharmacokinetics in vivo.
