The Psalmist sees that God
gives guidance and saves.
Overwhelmed and in response,
the Psalmist asks that he might
be with God for his whole life in
order to see God’s beauty and to
discern God’s will. May that be
our prayer also.

Opening Hymn
Thine arm, O Lord, in days of old
was strong to heal and save;
it triumphed o’er disease and death,
o’er darkness and the grave:
to thee they went, the deaf, the dumb,
the palsied and the lame,
the beggar with his sightless eyes,
the sick with fevered frame.
And lo, thy touch brought life and health,
gave speech and strength and sight;
and youth renewed and frenzy calmed
owned thee, the Lord of light:
and now, O Lord, be near to bless,
almighty as of yore,
in crowded street, by restless couch,
as by Gennesareth’s shore.
Be thou our great deliverer still,
thou Lord of life and death;
restore and quicken, soothe and bless,
with thine almighty breath:
to hands that work, and eyes that see,
give wisdom’s heavenly lore,
that whole and sick, and weak and strong,
may praise thee evermore.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns 1 July 2018
Gradual Hymn
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy
like the wideness of the sea;
there’s a kindness in his justice
which is more than liberty.
For the love of God is broader
than the measures of man’s mind;
and the heart of the Eternal
is most wonderfully kind.
But we make his love too narrow
by false limits of our own;
and we magnify his strictness
with a zeal he will not own.
There is plentiful redemption
in the blood that has been shed;
there is joy for all the members
in the sorrows of the Head.
There is grace enough for thousands
of new worlds as great as this;
there is room for fresh creations
in that upper home of bliss.
If our love were but more simple,
we should take him at his word;
and our lives would be all gladness
in the joy of Christ our Lord.

Offertory Hymn
O for a thousand tongues to sing
my dear Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of his grace!
Jesus! the name that charms our
fears,
that bids our sorrows cease;
‘tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘tis life and health and peace.
He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
he sets the prisoner free:
his blood can make the foulest clean;
his blood availed for me.
He speaks; and, listening to his voice,
new life the dead receive,
the mournful broken hearts rejoice,
the humble poor believe.
Hear him, ye deaf; his praise ye
dumb,
your loosened tongues employ;
ye blind, behold your Saviour come;
and leap, ye lame, for joy!
My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim
and spread through all the earth
abroad
the honours of thy name.

Final Hymn
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
'Come unto me and rest;
lay down, O weary one, lay down
your head upon my breast.'
I came to Jesus as I was,
weary and worn and sad;
I found in him a resting-place,
and he has made me glad.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
'Behold, I freely give
the living water; thirsty one,
stoop down and drink and live.'
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in him.
I heard the voice of Jesus say,
'I am this dark world's light;
look unto me, your morn shall rise,
and all your day be bright.'
I looked to Jesus, and I found
in him my star, my sun;
and in that light of life I'll walk
till travelling days are done.

Psalm 130
Chant: Purcell, Henry (1659-1695)
1 Out of the depths have I called to | you, O | Lord:
Lord, | hear |my | voice;
2 O let your ears con- | sider | well:
the |voice of . my | suppli- |cation.
3 If you, Lord, should note what |we do |wrong:
who then, O | Lord, | could | stand?
4 But there is for- | giveness | with you:
so | that you | shall be | feared.
5 I wait for the Lord, my | soul | waits for him:
and in his | word | is my | hope.
6 My soul looks | for the | Lord:
more than watchmen for the morning,
more, I say, than | watchmen | for the | morning.
7 O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord |there is | mercy:
and with | him is | ample . re- | demption.
8 He will | redeem | Israel:
from the | multi. tude | of their | sins.
