"Those who wish to come after me
must deny themselves, take up
their crosses and follow me." Matthew 16: 21-27
Sometimes what makes a problem
tough is not that we don't know what
to do but that we know all too clearly what to do. To do
nothing is so much easier - but our taking the easy way
out can have devastating consequences for others. In
today's Gospel, Peter simply wants to protect Jesus
from the suffering he has predicted - but Jesus sharply
rebukes Peter for trying to diminish or skirt the cross
because it is difficult. Discipleship is not, as poor Peter
discovers, the avoidance of evil; to be Jesus' disciple is
to actively take on what is good, to seek out what is
right, to work for justice, to engender peace. May we
embrace the faith of the cross: faith that understands
that the crosses of our lives are the vehicles for bring-
ing God's promise of resurrection into our lives and the
lives of those we love.

Week 5:
“Seeing Natural Bridges: A Collaborative Visioning Process”
provided a context for the work of the PCA’s in autumn 2013.
The process asked the representatives in each PCA to meet
four times to consider 1) the manner in which parishes
collaborate with each other and to develop a joint plan for
evangelization in their area; 2) to acknowledge the mutual
need for a change in Mass schedules to reflect the capacity
of churches and the number of people at weekend Masses.
The second session also considered concrete, specific ways for
building their own parish identity and the mutual identity of
the parishes in the PCA. 3) The diminishing number of priests
and the linking and clustering of parishes will require plan-
ning for the selection, training and placing of new types of
parish staff members and leadership. PCAs were invited to
envision what parish and cluster staff might look at in their
area, and to prepare for collaborating now for the sake of the
future. 4) Representatives enjoyed a hearty conversation
about parish resources (spiritual, financial, volunteer, and
personnel) and what steps that they might take to make the
local vision possible. This conversation particularly sought to
engage lay parish leaders in naming the future.

A Quiet Time With Jesus
This is an invitation to spend a quiet time in the presence of
our Lord Jesus in the Tabernacle.
Starting Tuesday, between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM, the church
will be open and all are invited to spend these few minutes
in the quiet presence of our Lord Jesus.
During this personal time you may pray by reading scripture
from your bible, pray by doing a personal devotion or pray
for your personal needs.
There will be a basket on the Altar. If you wish, place your
personal petition(s) in the basket and at the end of our Quiet
Time with Jesus, we will share as a community, a common
pray over the petitions.
This prayer time will be concluded by, together, praying the
Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, and the Glory Be...
Contact Nick Pantazis, through the Parish Office, 336-2661,
if you have any questions.
