This session will discuss passive and active rain harvesting strategies implemented as part of Santa Monica’s Watershed Management Plan.
The purpose of these strategies is to limit the use of imported potable water, and to reduce water pollution associated with runoff.
The end goal is self-sufficient local water supply; clean receiving waters, the Santa Monica Bay.

Stormwater has become a lethal cocktail of pollutants that now constitutes the single greatest source of water pollutants, contributing 50-60 percent of the pollutant load.

American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association, www.ARCSA.org is the national organization with expertise in technology, standards and codes to assist in your work.
Its mission (www.ARCSA.org) is to promote sustainable rainwater harvesting practices to help solve potable, non-potable, stormwaterand energy challenges throughout the world.
Provides workshops for training on harvesting systems. Collaborates on writing standards and codes for plumbing,
treatment systems and water quality standards. Members include academia, government and business, all critical
stakeholders working together to promote this watershed management strategy.
