Treasurer’sUpdateandFinancialYearinReview:TreasurerGreenandPresidentOlson• 2016-2017FinancialReviewHighlights
o PresidentOlsonandTreasurerGreenprovidedapresentationonthe2016-2017financialreport. PleaseseePowerPointpresentationfordetails.
§ TreasurerGreenreportedthatrevenueraisedfromfundraiserssuchastheFall MembershipDrive,HolidayTreeSale,andAuctionbroughtin$141,363,withthe Auctionbringinginthemostproceeds,c.$40K.
§ TreasurerGreencommunicatedthatexpenditurestotaling$151,502exceededbudget projectionsduetooverspendinginthetechnologyandcurriculumcategories.President OlsonexplainedthatastheRossPTAfundsawiderangeofitemsandprogramsthat DCPS’budgetdoesnotcover,wehadtoinvestinupdatingcomputersandaudio-visual equipment,aswellaspurchasingin-classleveledreadersrequiredbyDCPS.Treasurer GreenalsoclarifiedthattheBoardkeepsareserveoffundstoretainfinancialstabilityin thecaseofanunforeseendevelopmentsuchasunplannedexpenses.
§ PTAmembersthankedbothPresidentOlsonandTreasurerGreenfortheirextensive workbothinsecuringourtax-exemptstatusundersection501(c)(3)oftheIRScodeand formodernizingourbudget.
• 2017-2018BudgetPreviewo PresidentOlsonandTreasurerGreengaveanoverviewofnextyear’sproposedbudget,
reviewingeachlineitemandwhatisexpectedtobespentthiscomingschoolyear.§ TreasurerGreenhighlightedthatthePTAhasbudgeted$145,000forexpenses,witha
revenuegoalof$147,900.
o BudgetDiscussion§ Ms.LeethankedthePTAforfundraisingtoprovidethebestresourcesforRossstudents.§ PresidentOlsonindicatedthatthisFall’sMembershipDrivewillbeheldduringthefirst
twoweeksoftheschoolyearandthattherewillbedifferentlevelsofmembership,with agoalof100%participationbyfamilies.
§ PresidentOlsonalsoindicatedthatthePTAwillpursuecommunitypartnershipstoraise approximately$3Kfromneighborhoodbusinesses.
o BudgetApproval§ Afterdiscussion,andmotiondulymade,seconded,andunanimouslycarried,thePTA
approvedtheSY2017-2018proposedbudget.

o PresidentOlsonsummarizedthatourall-weatherplayingfieldisovertenyearsoldandneedstobereplaced.ThePTAraised$9Klastyear,$10Kthisyear,andreceivedagrantfor$1500,foratotalof$21Ktoputtowardsanewsyntheticturfsystem.Sincediscussionwentovertheallottedtime,thePTAwillsendoutaDoodlePoolforfamiliestovotetheirpreferencetoreplaceourcurrentSBR(styrene-butadienerubber)infillwithEPDM(EthylenePropyleneDieneMonomer),avirginrubberthathasnotbeenrecycledorGeoFill,anorganiccoconutinfillthatwouldreplacethecrumbrubberplayingfield.
