SCHOOL VISION:
East Bentleigh Primary School provides a rich, inviting, child-focused
environment ensuring that all students feel safe and stimulated. Our students are
able to achieve their full academic, creative and social potential, equipped for the
challenges of lifelong learning. Students develop into healthy and confident
individuals, actively contributing to the world in which they live.
Hello everyone,
I can’t believe that when this newsletter goes out there will be only
effectively 5 weeks left of school for 2017. The next few weeks will certainly
be very busy ones and before we know it they will be over.
End of year class performances will begin soon. Sue and I are really looking
forward to attending these performances over the next few weeks and
watching the culmination of many weeks’ work by your children and their
teachers. I hope you have noted down all the remaining important dates
from the calendar - there are so many of them - especially the Bushdance
tomorrow night! (tickets still available at the office)
Staffing - 2018
As you may have already heard along the grapevine, our school will see a
number of staffing changes in 2018 as a number of our staff members
make significant changes in their lives.
Ramana Dean will leave us to pursue his teaching career at an
Independent Steiner school in 2018. Jessica Agganis the other member of
the Steiner Prep team, will be moving interstate so she will also be saying
goodbye to EBPS. Lachlan Griffin will be moving back to the Northern
Territory to become a stay at home dad. Sarah Thurgood will also be
leaving us as she brings forward her proposed ‘tree change’ to Gippsland.
We will also say goodbye to Joel Doutch as he pursues other interests.
Jarrad Camilleri who has been with us for the last term of this year will also
be moving on to another school in 2018. I would like to acknowledge and
thank all our departing teachers who have in so many ways left a very
positive mark at EBPS. I wish them all the very best as they embark in this
new chapter of their lives.
As you will imagine this collective news has meant that much planning has
been happening in earnest over the past few weeks to ensure your
children’s educational journey remains seamless. Earlier this week we
conducted the final set of exhaustive interviews to replace our departing
staff members and have made provisional appointments to replace them.
As they are still provisional appointments I am not in a position to reveal
either the names of our new staff members, nor the provisional class / grade
allocations in this newsletter, but should be able to do so in the next
newsletter. Pleasingly, our school will continue to grow another class in 2018,
culminating in 19 classes. The members of the 2 selection panels were
unanimous in their short listing process and we are delighted to say that all
of our number one choices have accepted our offers and are very excited
by the prospect of joining our vibrant school community.

WALKATHON
MONDAY 20th NOVEMBER
Principal’s Report
Congratulations Althea (2S)!
On Monday, Althea received her prize for winning the Bentleigh Hodges Halloween Colouring In
Competition. Karen Chernishov and Molly Twentyman from Bentleigh Hodges came along to our school
assembly to surprise Althea with her win. Karen and Molly also kindly donated quite a few books to our
school library. We are very appreciative of the kind support that Bentleigh Hodges provides to our school
wherever they can.
Blackberry Jam Bush Band Workshops - for the BUSHDANCE
What fun was had by children and adults alike on Monday as
Chris and Ray taught us all the fun partner and group dances that
promise to make our Bushdance coming up this Friday such fun.
If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, it’s not too late -
remember to bring your ticket along to drop in the entry box for
your chance to win the lucky door prize. Thank you to those of
you who have advised us as to how many of you are coming so
we can cater well for you all. Remember you are also welcome to
bring along your own picnic if not taking advantage of the BBQ
provided.

Don’t forget the Walkathon!! East Bentleigh J.S.C. and School Captains have decided to hold our walkathon on:
Monday 20th
November 2017
It will give the children the opportunity to be outside actively walking whilst also raising money for two of
our charities:
States Schools’ Relief – This charity provides support to Victorian students who cannot access cloth-
ing and footwear for school due to circumstances like poverty, neglect, family violence, house
fires, homelessness, financial hardship and natural disasters.
Very Special Kids – This charity provides counselling and support services to families caring for a
child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
All children from Prep – Grade 6 will be invited to par ticipate in this exciting event. They will walk
around the two ovals at the back of the school and do as many laps as they can in the 45 minutes they
have.
The Grade 3 – 6 children will walk between 9:00 – 9:45am
The Preps – Grade 2 children will walk between 9:45 – 10:30am
At the conclusion of their walk all students will be given an “icypole” to help cool down. Parents are
welcome to come and watch – even walk if they like.
The children are encouraged to collect as many sponsors as possible….aunts, uncles, grandparents, mums
and dads and family friends. Please use the sponsor sheet supplied. Your sponsor can either give a
donation or pay by the lap.
Children will need to have some sunscreen on, wear their hat and have a drink bottle filled with
water.
A hardcopy of this notice and the sponsorship form will also be sent home - please look out for it.
Any queries please contact.
Sue Jackson – on behalf of the J.S.C. and School Captains

Class 4S - Wellbeing “Buddy Books”
Class 4S have been writing Buddy Books during our Wellbeing sessions. The books have been
written to encourage empathy, self-esteem and confidence. Here is an example written and
illustrated by Pip and Grace.
Only One Me
This is White
White is sad. He thinks he’s not cool like Red or Blue. He is bland.
He thinks he is not happy like Green and Yellow.
He tried to put a suit on. It was purple but he couldn’t copy Purple.
He wanted his own colour. But then White remembered there were two reds and
three greens but only one…
White.

Greetings from the resident fox
For many years our Prep transition children have listened out in wonder for the legendary fox that lives somewhere under the school. The children have been on the look out for the school fox for many years in the hope that one day the fox would appear. Finally last week our Art Teacher Janette Arvanitakis and some of the children of her class were lucky enough to spot the fox who decided to pay a morning visit to our Art Room. There is something magical about this and it is lovely to see that hope can manifest in such a beautiful way. Thanks Preps for believing in our school fox!
