LAST GAME vs. SAN DIEGO (Regular Season)
Chicago 31, San Diego 20
Sunday, November 20, 2011 -- Soldier Field
CHICAGO – Although they won their fi fth-straight contest with a 31-20 victory over the San
Diego Chargers at Soldier Field, the Bears lost starting QB Jay Cutler for the season due
to a hand injury in the fourth quarter.
After a slow start, the Bears offense scored touchdowns on four straight possessions
spanning the second and third quarters as the Bears extended their winning streak to fi ve
with a 31-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers at Soldier Field.
Cutler passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third, completing 18 of 31 attempts for
286 yards for a 97.0 passer rating. After rifl ing a 4-yard touchdown pass to TE Kellen Davis
late in the second quarter, Cutler produced two touchdowns in a 54-second span in the
third quarter, snapping a 17-17 tie.
The Bears quarterback scored on a 1-yard plunge, capping a drive during which he
completed all four passing attempts for 76 yards. After CB Charles Tillman forced and
recovered a Ryan Mathews fumble, Cutler lofted a 24-yard touchdown pass to WR Johnny
Knox in the left corner of the end zone to make it 31-17.
Cutler was not sacked while playing behind a line that featured Edwin Williams making
his fi rst start of the season in place of the injured Chris Williams at left guard.
After Nick Novak’s 28-yard fi eld goal gave the Chargers an early 3-0 lead, the Bears
rallied to go ahead 10-3 on K Robbie Gould’s 42-yard fi eld goal and RB Marion Barber’s
1-yard touchdown run.
San Diego tied it 10-10 on QB Philip Rivers’ 8-yard touchdown pass to TE Antonio Gates
with 2:04 left in the fi rst half before Cutler and Davis connected to put the Bears ahead
17-10 with 20 seconds remaining.
Rivers rifl ed a 5-yard touchdown pass to WR Vincent Jackson to tie the score 17-17
early in the third quarter, but Cutler then engineered back-to-back touchdown drives.
Novak provided the game’s fi nal points with a 48-yard fi eld goal on the fi rst play of the
fourth quarter.
The Bears were driving midway through the fi nal period when Knox slipped on a slant
route, enabling CB Antoine Cason to intercept Cutler’s pass and return it 64 yards to the
Chicago 16.
Cutler saved a touchdown, hustling downfi eld to slow up Cason, who was eventually
forced out of bounds by RB Matt Forte. Three plays later, S Major Wright intercepted Riv-
ers in the end zone. Wright now has interceptions in three straight games, while CB Corey
Graham - who replaced the injured D.J. Moore at nickel back - picked off a pass for the
second consecutive week.
The Bears outgained the Chargers 106-0 in the fourth quarter, rushing for 58 yards on
17 carries after gaining just 35 yards on 15 attempts through the fi rst three periods.

Backing up Cutler will be Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard. McCown is in his 11th NFL season and his third with the Bears. Starting 33 of
50 contests played in his career, McCown has completed 645 of 1,113 (58.0 percent) for 6,998 yards, 37 touchdowns and 44 interceptions for
a 71.2 passer rating. On the ground, he has added 637 yards and three touchdowns on 139 attempts (4.6 ypc). McCown was three-of-eight
passing (37.5 percent), in the fi rst preseason game at Carolina, for 27 yards in one quarter of work as a reserve.
Blanchard is entering his second preseason with the Bears after entering the NFL with the team in 2012 as an undrafted rookie free agent
out of Wisconsin-Whitewater. In the second half of the Bears fi rst preseason game against the Panthers, Blanchard was 15-of-18 passing
(83.3 percent) for 194 yards and an interception.
RUNNING BACKS/FULL BACKS (6) - Coach Skip Peete
Matt Forté (four-tay) enters his sixth season with the Bears, ranking third in Bears history in yards from scrimmage (7,652) and fourth in
rushing yards (5,327 on 1,262 attempts with 26 touchdowns). The dual-threat back has 267 receptions for 2,325 yards and nine touchdowns.
He is one of just three players in franchise history with 5,000 rushing yards and 2,000 receiving yards, joining Neal Anderson and Hall of
Famer Walter Payton.
Forté is fourth in the league in yards from scrimmage, eighth in rushing yards and third in receiving yards among running backs since
entering the NFL in 2008. Named to the Pro Bowl after the 2011 season, he is the fi rst player in franchise history with 1,400-plus yards from
scrimmage in each of his fi rst fi ve seasons and the fi rst with 900-plus rushing yards in each of his fi rst fi ve years in the NFL. Starting at tailback
in the Bears fi rst preseason contest of 2013 at Carolina, Forté had one rush (-one yard) and one reception (fi ve yards) in less than a quarter
of play.
Michael Bush is in his second season with the Bears and seventh in the NFL, compiling 3,053 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns on 746
attempts (4.1 ypc). He has added 100 receptions for 962 receiving yards with one touchdown.
In his fi rst season with the Bears, Bush tied for the team lead with fi ve rushing touchdowns and now has 20 over the last three seasons,
13th most in the NFL during that time. In Chicago’s fi rst preseason contest, Bush had a three-yard carry and two receptions for 16 yards while
playing in two series.
Entering his third year in the NFL, Armando Allen has 42 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown while adding two receptions for 16 yards

Ford had six carries for 15 yards, including a four-yard touchdown run, and three receptions for 35 yards.
During the offseason, the Bears signed veteran FB Tony Fiammetta (Fee-ah-met-uh), who has appeared in 34 games including 17 starts
with Carolina (2009-10) and Dallas (2011). The 6-0, 250-pound back has 11 carries for 26 yards and eight receptions for 73 yards while pri-
marily serving as a lead blocker during his NFL career.

WIDE RECEIVERS (12) - Coach Mike Groh
Four-time Pro Bowler (2008, ‘09, ‘11 and ‘12 seasons) Brandon Marshall enters his second year in Chicago after rewriting the Bears record
books in 2012. The 6-4 wideout established franchise single-season records in receptions (118) and receiving yards (1,508), while setting a
career-high with 11 touchdown catches. For his NFL career, Marshall has hauled in 612 receptions for 7,755 yards (12.7 ypc) with 45 touch-
downs in seven seasons with Denver (2006-09), Miami (2010-11) and Chicago (2012). He ranks fourth and seventh in the NFL in receptions
and receiving yards, respectively, since entering the NFL in 2006.
Marshall is one of just two players in the NFL, along with Roddy White, to have over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last six years
and one of only three players (White and Wes Welker) to have 80-plus receptions in each of the last six seasons. Marshall did not play in the
fi rst preseason contest at Carolina.

most in team history. Gould connected on franchise record 57-yard fi eld goal in 2011 and has hit 10-straight from 50-plus yards. His 76.5 per-
centage (13-of-17) from 50-plus yards is third highest in NFL history among kickers with at least 10 attempts from 50 yards out. Gould hit his
only fi eld goal attempt, a 35-yarder in the Bears fi rst preseason game against the Panthers.
PUNTERS (2)
Adam Podlesh is in his third season with the Bears after establishing the top two Bears single-season records for net punting average (40.4 in
2011 and 39.4 in 2012). The seventh-year NFL punter has 399 punts for 17,053 yards (42.7 gross average) with 130 punts landed inside-the-20
and 29 touchbacks. In 2012, he set a career-high with 34 punts landed inside-the-20, which was fourth most in the NFL, and helped the Bears
establish a franchise record for punt coverage allowing just 3.4 yards per return. Podlesh had three punts for 149 yards (49.7 gross average)
inclduing two inside-the-20 at Carolina.
The Bears have also added P Tress Way (Oklahoma) as an undrafted free agent. Way had three punts for 95 yards (31.7 gross avg.)
including one inside-the-20 against the Panthers.
LONG SNAPPERS (2)
Arguably the best long snapper in the NFL, Patrick Mannelly is the Bears all-time leader in games played (231) and seasons played (15).
Mannelly is currently the NFL leader among active players for most games played with their current team. Mannelly has handled the snapping
duties in all but nine games during his NFL career, pulling the trigger on 2,156-of-2,232 long snapping atempts during that time. He is the only
player from the 1998 NFL Draft class to still be currently active with the NFL team that selected him. One of the top coverage performers for
his position, Mannelly has totaled 80 career special teams tackles, which ranks third in team history since the stat was fi rst recorded in 1995.
The Bears signed undrafted rookie free agent long snapper Brandon Hartson (Houston) on August 11.
