Learn the basics of animation and illustrationThe Pre-Animation and Illustration program at Algonquin College helps students decide whether they have the interest, motivation, creativity, and dexterity to pursue a career in animation or illustration. Students will train to create a professional grade portfolio that contains images of strong composition, structure and observation-based samples.

YOUR CAREERA General Arts and Science Ontario College Certificate or Ontario College Diploma demonstrates to employers, colleges and universities that graduates have the ability to learn at a postsecondary level, have enhanced skills in oral and written communication, can conduct research in a systematic manner, and are flexible and open to meeting new challenges. These are important attributes in a world where change is rapid and adaptability is an asset.

This program is well-suited for students who are interested in exploring the animation and illustration fields, are imaginative and creative, work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and are good problem solvers.

Do I need to submit a portfolio?No. Part of our mandate is to help you develop a strong portfolio.

•Partofyourtuitionwillcoverthecostsoftheremainingartmaterialsandsoftware that you will need. The art supplies or Kits will be distributed during Orientation Day beforethestartoftheyear(thecollegewillnotifyyouofthedate;usuallylateAugust), or, during your first day at the college.

I’ve taken something similar but didn’t graduate. Would I be exempt from one or two of my credits?The college offers prior learning assessment for those who feel they already meet requirements forsomecourses.Westronglyrecommendthatyoukeepallofthedrawingrelatedcoursesnomatter what your level or academic experience. Our philosophy is the more you draw; the better artist you will become.

How do I know if I am a good fit for this program?Ifyouareeagertolearn,motivated,passionateaboutdrawing,curiousandabovealllovetodraw,thenthisprogramisforyou.Mostofourstudentshaveaninterestinanimation,comics,illustration and webcomics.
