1. Introduction•Who Are We?

•Starting Point

•What Are Our Goals &Targets for this Hands-on Workshop?

Page 4: Power to the Users (and Librarians)

The starting point• We want to learn from each other. Let’s talk and work on new

things together and share our knowledge.

• It’s not about HOW we are doing things or what exact tools to use, but it’s all about the main fact that we CAN do all these things.

• We do not know every possible way to use web 2.0 tools. There are simply too many, and they keep changing & developing.

• We choose on a pragmatic basis, looking for applied use.

• Practical approach, as much hands-on as possible

• The development of improved library information systems will always remain the core business of any serious library organization.

• We learn every day, just by doing and keeping an open mind.

Page 5: Power to the Users (and Librarians)

At The End Of The Day … “Goals”

• We expect you to walk-out of here with the feeling : – that almost “anything is possible” for users and

libraries– That users can & will decide what to choose from

services offered to them, from libraries, but also from (free) web-tools and publishers.

– That things will keep changing• Make a website together that shows web 2.0 & library

2.0 on TICER 2008 and related info

Page 6: Power to the Users (and Librarians)

2. Web 2.0 Power

• Interactivity, Connectivity, Interoperability, Social

• Visibility, Findability, Searchability : “Saturation”

Page 7: Power to the Users (and Librarians)

Library 2.0• Browser + Web 2.0 Applications + Connectivity • Harness the library user in both design and

implementation of services • Library users should be able to craft and modify library

provided services

• Harvest and integrate ideas and products from peripheral fields into library service models

• Continue to examine and improve services and be willing to replace them at any time with newer and better services.

(from the Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_2.0)

Page 8: Power to the Users (and Librarians)

“The Web is Ours”

• User chooses and creates• It’s no threat, but an additional thing,

supplementary• If the user can do it himself,

the library should have done it before, as a service

• Play a role –as Library/Librarians in innovation in education, research, projects.

• “Collaboration is King”
