Year 2 Home Learning 25/06/20
Here is your Home Learning Timetable for today.
If you feel that any part is too tricky or not accessible, change it to suit your needs. If you feel that your child is working through it too quickly, give them challenges or source more material online.
Feel free to change or personalise the material. Explain anything they don’t understand in your own words and remind them it’s OK to get stuff wrong; that’s when we learn! If your child finds anything particularly hard or frustrating then simplify it or come back to it later.
As we are getting used to life outside of school, it is becoming more important that the children try to complete their weekly work. Their well-being will always be our priority but as we don’t know exactly when we will all properly be back at school, we need to instil a sense that working at home is normal.
I appreciate this is really tricky for you guys especially when many of you have your own work to do and important things to complete to keep your homes running smoothly. Children of this age generally need a little supervision which is time consuming. Most of you are not teachers and it seems like you’ve done such an amazing job so far. Gold stars for all of you!
I have tried to make these packs as accessible as possible. If you need advice on any of it or tips on how to get the children to focus then please get in contact via email. I can give you a call for a chat or send you a written reply.
This week’s theme is ‘Plants’.Relaxation
Sit somewhere comfortable and close your eyes. Take five deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Focus on the little noises you can hear outside, and around your house. It’s OK if your mind wanders, just bring your thoughts round to your
breathing and what you can hear. Try to sit still with a quiet mind for at least 5 minutes.
If you need some help or inspiration look up one of the ‘Peace out meditations’ that we have been doing on YouTube to guide you.
Remember: This is important for our learning. With a clear mind we can concentrate more easily!
Tip for parents – If your child feels silly doing this or doesn’t want to, join in with them!

Reading
BugClub time! https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0
Tips for parents: Log onto ‘Bugclub’ and have the children read one of their stories. Then answer the questions about it.
If you do not have your login let me know and I will send it to you. If you do not have a suitable device, choose a book that your child can read
confidently and get them to read it to you. Ask them questions like “What was the story about?” “What did you think of the story? Why?” “What might happen after this?” “What was your favourite part?” “Does it remind you of any other stories?
Get them to read the story twice, out loud. The first time they can concentrate on the sounds and new words. Make sure that the second time they read the story, they read it as they would ‘say’ it (using a conversational tone).

Curriculum
Today you planned a story called:
‘The Crafty, Man-Eating Plant From Pluto!’
What do you think this dangerous plant might look like?Your job is to design this terrifying, alien plant and label it’s parts. It must have:
Leaves. A stem. Petals. Some sort of flower. Roots (these could be it’s feet if you want it to walk). Big, sharp teeth!
The rest is up to you…
17 – Thursday
Music Song of the day! Remember to move your body in time with the music. If you like, you can talk about the instruments you can hear, the way it makes you feel, your opinion, when it was made, if it reminds you of anything else. If not, just have a dance and a smile and a laugh.(Feel free to play your own if you don’t like mine!)
