SEEKING PIKWAKANAGAN CARVERS
For: 1 or 2 Totem Poles – Approx. 10 ft. with an estimate of cost and time frame (Colours & Designs of Artist’s Choice). Location: Red Pine Camp - Golden Lake, ON (Near Hwy 60, on Island View Drive)
Many years ago, a member of Pikwakanagan “Pudgy” Francis Sarazin carved Totem Poles for Red Pine Camp. A piece of history that’s truly seen its days, it will be taken down to be preserved and located indoors within our camp. We hope to seek someone from Pikwakanagan that would be interested in giving us an estimate of cost and time frame to make one or two more artifacts.

MEEGWETCH
On behalf of the Bernard Family, we would like to extend our most sincerest, “Meegwetch” to everyone for all their food, cards, and comforting words, monetary gifts, flowers, prayers and visits to our Mother, Gloria Bernard. Having family and friends presence was truly comforting.
We would also like to thank Peggy Dick and her team for all their support through Mom’s illness. A very big meegwetch to the Pikwakanagan Family Health Team, Bayshore and all health care providers who were there for us. Meegwetch to the Barry’s Bay Hospice for the loan of the air bed for Mom’s comfort.
Meegwetch to Candace Bennett, for your assistance and on-going support during your Aunt Gloria’s illness. You are truly a very compassionate woman and we love you with all our hearts. Thanks to Estelle Amikons for all her support and being with all of us through the journey. Thanks to Sherry Dion for the readings in church and Shawn Baptiste for the music during the funeral.
Thanks to Karen Levesque and everyone who organized the luncheon after the funeral. Also thanks to Cynthia Commanda-Tennisco and Karen Levesque for assisting us with dressing Mom for her viewing.
I know Mom would be very proud of all the support she received that enabled her to be at home to pass away. A special “meegwetch” to our brother, Pete, who was there to do his ceremony to allow Mom to pass with the Creator comfortably. We would also like to thank all our Aunts and Uncles and cousins for their support during our difficult time.
If we have forgot anyone, our apologies. There was so many involved that it would take longer to name individually.
Our most sincerest “Meegwetch” to everyone.
Love, Jeff, Steph, Nicole and Pete

JULY 28, 2018 WORLD HEPATITIS DAY
Hepatitis A is passed on by swallowing feces.
Feces can be in contaminated water and food and
on unwashed hands. There is no treatment for Hep
A, but the infection usually clears on its own.
Hepatitis B is passed on when the blood, semen,
vaginal fluid or rectal fluid of a person with Hep B
comes into contact with the blood of another
person. Most people clear the virus on their own. In
other people, treatment can help slow the virus but
will not cure it.
Hepatitis C is passed on through blood-to-blood
contact. This most often happens when:
sharing drug equipment with another person
receiving blood transfusions or organ transplants
that are not screened for Hep C (all blood and
organs used in Canada are now screened for Hep C)
re-using tools for activities that break the skin,
including medical or dental procedures, tattooing
and piercing
Some people clear the virus on their own, but most
people have a long-term infection. Treatment can
cure Hep C in many people, but a person can be
infected again.
Vaccines can protect against hepatitis A and B, but
there is no vaccine for hepatitis C.
The only way to know for sure whether you have
Hep A, Hep B or Hep C is to get tested.
HEATH AWARENESS FOR JULY
Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month
Juvenile Arthritis is the most common type of arthritis
in children. Arthritis is a long-term condition
characterized by stiffness, swelling, and pain in the
joints. Some children have arthritis for just a few
months, while others have arthritis for several years. In
rare cases, the condition can last a lifetime. Some
Symptoms of Juvenile Arthritis is joint pain, stiffness,
reduced range of motion, warm and swollen joints,
limping, redness in the affected area, swollen lymph
nodes, and recurrent fevers. Nonsteroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Advil) and
naproxen (Aleve), are often used to reduce
inflammation and swelling. Stronger medications may
also be prescribed if over-the-counter medications
aren’t effective. Aspirin might be recommended, but
this is rare because the medication may cause adverse
side effects in children. Never give your child aspirin
without a doctor’s consent.
