The Pikes Peak batholith (pink), composed of mostly granite, is the host rock for outstanding pegmatite mineral
occurrences in the region. The Florissant lineament (blue) is a unifying geologic hypothesis tying together diverse
mineral and fossil localities ranging from 28 million to 1 billion years old. This northwest-southeast trend is believed to
coincide with a major Precambrian deep-seated fault system, which has been re-activated through time.
