Who’s involved in Enviroschools?

How does Enviroschools create sustainable communities?
More than 100 Bay of Plenty families (or 83 per cent of surveyed parents from 14 Enviroschools kindergartens) reported their children had told their families about the environmental learning at kindergarten such as energy, water and reducing waste. The study was part of national research to capture the impact of the environmental programme on families.
Families stated that they actively try to live in more sustainable ways by consciously reducing car use (61 percent), minimising waste (100 percent), making changes to reduce energy use (88 percent) and growing their own food (85 percent). Parental involvement is encouraged, and 97 percent of families are supportive or very supportive of the programme.
“Fantastic to
‘normalise’ environmental
issues at this age - it’s
not something ‘different’;
it’s simply a normal part
of life. Hopefully they will
grow up so much more
aware than we did.”
“Fabulous to have our children exposed to this programme at such a young age - making conscious decisions to protect our
environment at four years is great.”
“The more kids who know this stuff will influence more parents to change habits.”
