Outram School Newsletter Volume 2 Number 4 – 23 May 2019 OUTRAM SCHOOL VISION – A school where children strive for
excellence, love learning, develop their passions and reach their potential
School Closed – Wednesday 29th May
Dear Parents and Caregivers
As previously advised, the teachers at our school will be taking strike action from 12.01 am to 11.59 pm on Wednesday 29 May 2019.
The Board has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide the normal teaching services during the strike.
The school will need to close during this strike.
It’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike.
School buses will not be running. After School Care will not operate.
I know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern.
Thank you for your understanding. Please contact the Board Chair, Annette Harrex, if you have any queries relating to this decision.
Yours sincerely, Annette Harrex Chair Board of Trustees
Outram School Board of Trustees Election Nominations – need to be in by 12 noon tomorrow Friday 24th March 2019
There is a list of candidates’ names, as they come to hand, for inspection in the school foyer. There will be a voting election. Voting papers will be sent out to you in the next week. Please contact Carolyn at the school office if you do not receive these by 31 May 2019. An addressed envelope will be included with the voting papers and this is what your votes need to be returned in. One voting paper per envelope or they are invalid. I strongly recommend that you bring these into the office foyer and put them in the voting box provided rather than post to ensure they are received by noon on 7 June 2019 as this is when voting closes.

Dear Parents Tēnā koutou, kia ora koutou katoa A reminder that we will have a disrupted Week 5 with school closed on Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday 29 May – NZEI Teacher Strike Day Friday 31 May – Teacher Only Day Last night, we held the last meeting of the current Board of Trustees. I want to publicly express my thanks and gratitude to all trustees for their commitment and service over the last three years (and longer for some members);
- Craig Brown who has served as a past chair and looked after finances - Ash Barron, trustee responsible for property - Amelia Rogers, looking after health and safety - Katrina Robertson, responsible for employment - Annette Harrex, our Board of Trustee chairperson - Lynda Bayne, representing the Outram staff
I have enjoyed working with a Board who have the progress, achievement, and well-being of children at heart. Your understanding of governance, faith and confidence in management, has been greatly appreciated. We have strong interest in serving on the next elected Board. Thank you to all those who have put their name forward for nomination. I wish all candidates well in the upcoming elections. I was drawn to this statement in the last NZSTA Election update. Every eligible voter should vote to ensure that elected boards represent the community, have a good mix of gender, ethnicity, skills and experiences to bring to the board table. This can make a positive difference to your children’s learning. The Board of Trustee election’s is the biggest democratic process we have as a country. Please use your right to vote when the voting papers arrive in the next week or so.
Thank you to University of Otago School of Education students Hannah White and Caitlin Quin, who have been working in Room 4 and Room 6 over the last two weeks. I wish you both well in your continuing Bachelor of Teaching studies. Tomorrow, Room 8 will present at our Friday assembly. I look forward to hearing and seeing what they have all been up to. See you there. Nga mihi nui
