“…I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of
God.” (Colossians 1:25) We are all called to evangelize – to continuously grow in our relationship with Jesus and to share it with others. We
may not be called to evangelize like St. Paul, but we should look for opportunities to share our faith with those closest
to us, like our family, friends and neighbors. Pray for the courage to share your faith the next
time the opportunity arises.

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER:
As we begin the more relaxed season of summer, please remember that our parish, Our Lady of Mount Virgin, still depends on your weekly generosity to meet everyday expenses. Please remember to "make up" your weekly gift to our parish when you are away at your "summer home" or on a much deserved vacation. OLMV doesn't take a vacation and we are called upon to meet our financial obligations even during the summer. Thanks for you assistance each week.

From the Desk of Father David
Dear Parishioners of OLMV, On June 3, we recited the Living Rosary with our members and visitors. Father David inducted a new member to the Altar Rosary Society. We also installed our new Executive Board for the 2019-2021 term. We want to take this opportunity to thank our past officers for the fine job they did during their term in office.
Most of all, we would like to thank you, our parish family, for your support with the Bake Sales, Coat Drive, Oktoberfest and out of pocket donations. We are so blessed to have such generous parishioners. May the Lord bless you, Altar Rosary Society PS: “SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER”
Last Sunday we heard the very beautiful and important parable of the Good Samaritan. In his Angelus address from the papal apartment overlooking St. Peter’s Square, in a reflection on the parable, Pope Francis delivered an important message. The Pope observed that the parable teaches that “compassion is the bench-mark” of Christianity and “the model of how a Christian must act.” He invited us to judge our own hearts first, rather than the hearts of those in need; to think about the possibility of our own hardness of heart, before considering the sins and failures of others. If we see someone lying in the street, asks the Pope, do we assume he must be drunk? If we do, is it not our hearts that have been hardened and turned to ice? The Pope went on to say that the true face of love is “mercy towards a human life in need. This is how one becomes a true disciple of Jesus.” “‘Be merciful as your Father is merciful.’ God, our Father, is merciful, because He has compassion; He is capable of having this compassion, of approaching our pain, our sin, our vices, our miseries.” The Pope noted that the Good Samaritan, being a Samaritan, was considered an unbeliever by the Jew-ish audience to which Jesus was preaching, making Jesus’ message to them even more poignant. Jesus uses a man of no faith as a model, the Pope said, because this man, in “loving his brother as himself, shows that he loves God with all his heart and with all his strength – the God that he did not know!” The Pope noted that we are not the ones who determine who is and who isn’t our neighbor. Rather, he said, it is the person in need who identifies the neighbor, finding it in the person who has compassion and stops to help. Having compassion is the key. “If you stand before a person in need and don’t feel compassion, if your heart is not moved, that means that something is wrong. Be attentive.” “Mercy toward a human being in need is the true face of love. And that is how you become true disciples of Jesus and show others the Fa-ther’s face.” This is evangelization at its very finest. Pope Francis prayed, “May the Virgin Mary help us to understand and above all to live more and more the unbreakable bond that exists between love for God our Father and concrete and generous love for our brothers, and give us the grace to have compassion and grow in compassion.”

BACK TO SCHOOL COLLECTION August 10-11, 2019
We realize it's still summer, but school supplies need to be purchased early to get the best prices and give the or-ganizations time to distribute
the items to needy families in a number of charities. These charities include the Catholic Charities of Perth Amboy, the Ozaman Family Shelter and a number of other charities that help families work towards the day when they will have their own place to live. Items needed are the usual things children need going back to school, such as pencils, pens, binders, backpacks and other items you will see on sale in the stores. Please contribute to this project if you can.

What does RCIA mean? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the title of the process designed to prepare adults for entrance into the Catholic Church by the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Through this process, the Church helps seekers in their search for a deeper awareness, knowledge, and experience of God and what it means to be a Catholic in today’s world. (US Catholic Catechism for Adults, page 525)
