Health & Welfare
The main Venture site is located 20 minutes from Rotorua hospital
At the Venture site there will be a 24x7 medical post staffed with first aiders
If there is a need to see a doctor, the Con(ngent will take you into the local medical center or hospital. This will be covered by travel insurance.
If there is a need to have a script filled at a pharmacy, the Con(ngent will arrange this, and you will need to reimburse the con(ngent for the cost.
Health & Welfare
Where to go if you have a problem:
During the Pre Tour – Speak with unit leader or the Welfare Leaders
During the Venture – Speak with your unit leader, if you are unhappy with the result speak to the Con(ngent Team
During the Post Tour – Speak with any leader or the Welfare Leaders
We need to know if you have an issue – Your family can’t solve your problems from Australia!
Health & Welfare
If you have specific health or dietary needs this should be on your online registra(on – if not speak to us ASAP!
If you have a specific dietary requirement (other than vegetarian) and have not provided a medical cer(ficate, we need this now.
If your details have changed since registra(on please update your online applica(on now! This system will close on the 15th December.
If your next of kin contact informa(on has changed, please update the system now!
Health & Welfare
Online medical updates can only be completed up to 15th December
If you medial details change aner 15th December you need to complete the paper-‐based medical form and bring it with you.
This should be handed to the Travel Coordinator on your flight
Health & Welfare: Travel Sickness
If you get mo(on sickness – please bring some medica(on with you. There will be some longish bus trips (around 4 hours)
If you are on the pre tour, the Coromandel Day has around 40 minutes of very windy road.
Health & Welfare: Contac2ng Home
If there is an incident that requires us to Contact the parents/guardians this will only be done by Phil or Kusi.
NO LEADER OR VENTURER IS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH NEXT OF KIN UNTIL PHIL OR KUSI HAS SPOKEN WITH THEM.
This is to ensure that accurate informa(on is relayed.
Contac2ng the Con2ngent
NewsleXer 4 has the Con(ngent Hotline number & Phil’s number on the last page (we will provide these again at the end of the presenta(on)
In NZ every Venturer will have the Hotline number on their ID tag Parents, please only call if it is urgent – there is a good chance we will not be in the immediate vicinity of your Venturer, so may need to call you back once we have made contact with them.
If you can’t get us the first try, please leave a message and we will call back.
We are also carrying 3 Satellite phones to ensure we can call out from anywhere
Communica2on
Communica(on during the Venture will vary At the Venture site mobile recep(on is patchy. Keep in mind unless you have Interna(onal Roaming your Australian number won’t work in NZ.
During Phase One we have been advised most expedi(ons won’t have mobile coverage.
PARENTS – NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!
Local Carriers & Sims
If you must have a mobile phone whilst you are away, we would recommend a local sim/number.
The Con(ngent is using Prepaid Vodafone NZ, their coverage in NZ is excellent. Two great travel plans are: $29 ( which includes 500MB data, 200 minutes and 200 TXTS) $49 (which includes 3GB of data, 200 minutes and 200 TXTS)
All of the included calls and TXTS are usable to Australian Numbers.
You Phone needs to be “UNLOCKED” from your normal carrier in order to put in a different Sim.
PARENTS – NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!
Money Australian EFTPOS cards will not work in NZ EFTPOS machines. You can withdraw NZ cash using them from ATM machines
Would recommend a “Visa Debit” style card or travel money card.
Most banks have travel cards and Australia post also has a range of solu(ons.
We suggest $7-‐10 per day as a guide for spending money (provided op(onal ac(vi(es are pre paid). You also have the ability to add more phase 2 ac(vi(es whilst in NZ so if you plan to do this, factor this into your budget.
If you want to buy your family some presents you might need more J
Safety and Security
The Venture and Australian Con(ngent take no responsibility for any lost personal items
Venturers will be responsible for their own possessions. If during the expedi(on you have a valuable item that needs to be stored, we will
look aner it for you
All of your personal items should be clearly labeled with your full name
If you can’t afford to lose it, Don’t bring it!
Safety and Security
All electronic devices and personal cash etc.
are the responsibility of the individual.
IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO LOSE IT
DON’T BRING IT
Insurance

This does not cover loss of personal items
Visi2ng your Venturer
You need to arrange with Phil if you wish to visit your Venturer during the Pre Tour, Venture or Post Tour
No Venturer may be removed from the site by any person without the express permission of the Con(ngent Leader
Travel Stats
Flights from all states in Australia (plus NT).
 2133 (ckets booked
Across 5 Airlines -‐ Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar, Air New Zealand and Emirates
Have worked hard to reduce the overall segments per person.
Weight Limits
Your luggage limit is 20kg. You also get 7kg of hand luggage.
You need to remember if you have purchased one of our tents, it will be coming home with you so you need to allow space/weight. You will need 3.5kg for the Storm Shelter and 4.9kg for the Venture+
The airlines are really strict with excess luggage – if you are over your limit you will need to pay the excess
Some things are not meant to travel!
Interna(onal flights have a liquid limit in your hand luggage of 100ml, so pack any liquids in your checked (undercarriage) baggage.
No scissors or first aid kits in your hand luggage No knives No fuel for stoves No fireworks No Whips No Fire Twirling equipment
Travel Tips
Personalise your bag – there will be 660 others just like yours. Be like Beyonce and put a ring on it (or a ribbon, etc).
Make sure you have your con(ngent luggage tags on your bags Make full use of your hand luggage allowance
Wear your hiking boots on the plane. They weigh a lot and Customs in NZ will want to inspect them for dirt (ENSURE THEY’RE SPOTLESS)
Travel Tips
Don’t strap anything to the outside of your bag! You are limited to 1 checked in bag (your Con(ngent Bag)
Hiking packs are fine if they are completely empty.
Don’t forget you can have a day pack as hand luggage
It will fit, if not you have too much stuff!
Don’t let your parent pack your bag J
Your Travel I2nerary
You would have already received your Travel i(nerary with your last con(ngent newsleXer. If you have not received yours, let us know and we will send you another one.
Passports
You will be responsible for your own passport whilst we are travelling to and from Australia. Make sure you put it somewhere safe!
(The top pocket of your Venturer Uniform is ideal)
Once in NZ everyone will be required to hand in their passport. The Con(ngent will securely store your passport for the dura(on of the trip
