CourseEvaluation

Theassignmentsandtheirweightsareasfollows:10%-ClassParticipation:Althoughthiscoursewillbemostlyonline,itisdesigned

asagraduateseminar.TheprofessorwillbeginleadingtheclasswithZoomlecturesandpostingvideos,butthemajorityoftheclasswillbestudent-ledonlinediscussionsandZoompresentations.Classroomexperienceswillbecollaborative,withbothstudentsandprofessorengagedinthelearningprocesstogether.StudentsmustparticipateconsistentlyeachweekandattendeveryZoomsessionandcomepreparedtoactivelycontributetodiscussions.Therefore,assignedreadingsandassignedresearchmustbecompletedbeforeclasstimeinorderforboththeindividualstudentandthebroaderclasstobenefit.

10%-LeadingClassDiscussion.Eachstudentwilltakeoneturnleadingtheclass

discussioninthefacetofaceportionoftheclass.Preparationforleadingthediscussionwillrequireextrareadingandindependentresearchonbehalfofthediscussionleader.Eachpresentationmusttaketheformofabriefinitialpresentationandthefacilitationoffurtherdiscussiononthetopic.

35%-ResearchPaperonChronicles:20pages.DueOct14,2020.Noextensionswillbegiven.Paperwillbesubmittedviaemailtotheprofessorwhowilldistributethemelectronicallytotheclass,whowillcomepreparedtodiscusstheirpeers’papersviaZoomonOct20andOct27.Atthebeginningofeachdiscussionstudentswillprovidea5minuteoverviewofthepapertogetdiscussionsgoing.FollowingourZoomsessions,studentswillrevisetheirpaperinlightofthefeedbackreceivedandsubmitthefinalversiontotheprofessorbyOct31,2020.

Paper(30%)ForthispaperstudentswillchoosearesearchtopicortextfromthebookofChronicles.ResearchTopicmustbeapprovedbyyourprofessor.Reviews(5%):Eachstudentwillwriteatwo-pagereviewoftheirfellowstudents’papersandemailthemtotheprofessorbeforethedateonwhichthepaperswillbepresentedanddiscussed,andthentothestudentwhowrotethepaper(s)aftertheZoomdiscussionofthepaperunderreview.

45%-ResearchonChosenSynopticText.25pages.Studentsmaychooseanysynoptictext(fromChroniclesorelsewhere)fromtheOldTestamentonwhichtofocusforthispaper.StudentswillwriteacompletedraftofthepaperbyNov21,2020andsubmitthepaperelectronicallytotheprofessorwhowilldistributethepaperelectronicallytostudents.
