convenors’ perceptions of collaborative planning and implementation

Collaborative planning

It was easier for them to design, implement and manage the MOOC as a group, instead of

as individuals, because each convenor brought different strengths to the MOOC

This made the MOOC more manageable to one convenor who expressed relief, “I didn’t have to do everything. I also didn’t have to

know everything about everything.”

Implementation

The biggest theme that emerged [...] about the implementation of the MOOC was the multiple technologies or virtual spaces

used for interactions (with participants and among participants)

The convenors’ choice and use of the virtual spaces depended on their own familiarity and comfort level with the technology used

Lessons Learnt

• diverse group of learners who participate

• clearly define roles and responsibilities not only in terms of design and implementation, but also virtual space management and interaction management

• it was as important to meet during the implementation about how things were going and what needed to be changed
