Objectification of women in advertising
And why it is ruining our lives.

Please be mature!!!
There may be content that you are not mature enough to handle, in which
case I will ask you to leave.

What Objectification is:
• Showing only parts of a sexualized body
• Using someone in place for an inanimate object
• Showing someone as interchangeable• Showing that somebody can and should be violated without consent
• Showing them as a commodity that can be bought and sold
![Page 4: Objectification presentation](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022062514/559339821a28ab142d8b45b5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Women as parts
Often used in advertising
![Page 5: Objectification presentation](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022062514/559339821a28ab142d8b45b5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
This is bad
• Makes women interchangeable• Makes them less than a person, more
like an object• Takes away individuality
![Page 6: Objectification presentation](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022062514/559339821a28ab142d8b45b5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Women as objects For sexual gain
Also used frequentlyMakes people think it’s ok to take
advantage of women
![Page 7: Objectification presentation](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022062514/559339821a28ab142d8b45b5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Also very bad
• Makes women into objects for ONLY SEX.• They are primarily for the sexual pleasure of
others.• We’re good for a lot of other things, like being doctors and scientists and pushing children out of
our uteruses.
![Page 8: Objectification presentation](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022062514/559339821a28ab142d8b45b5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)

If you said noyou were right
• She may be making a “sexual” face, but that does not mean she is a
sexual object• She is shown as an individual, and nothing implies that she is supposed
to be making that sexual face because she IS a sex object.

Their reasoning:
That you should buy their product because:
• You can possess the woman selling it• You can be the woman selling it
• You can have relations with the woman selling it• The woman selling it is used only because she
looks “sexy” or “hot”

Hopefully you learned something
• If you learned, you’re welcome• If not, that’s ok because as you may
have seen, it’s social convention. It may take a while.
• Please treat women respectfully, we are worth more than our sexual
organs.
