Harlem Renaissance• Great migration (WWI – the 1920’s) – African
Americans moved North to avoid segregation • Environment of artistic development, racial
pride, a sense of community, and political organization
• Politics: • As numbers increased in the North, so did their
political power in the voting bloc• Legally they battled lynching
Warren Harding (29th President) 1921-1923
• Ran on a campaign for “Normalcy” (Life after war)
• Presidency marked with scandal• Ohio Gang – Betrayed by his
friends • Sold Government jobs, pardons,
and protection from prosecution • Charles Forbes (Head of Veterans
