NATIONAL GRAPHENE INSTITUTE

New state-of-the-art cleanroom and laboratory building for the

University of Manchester

This new building will allow the

continued research and

commercial development of

‘Graphene’. Discovered in the

Physics Department at

Manchester University in 2004,

Graphene is considered to be

one of the most exciting

discoveries with potential to

revolutionise many areas of

modern technology.

The cleanrooms will be designed

to achieve ISO 5 (Class 199)

and ISO 6 (Class 1000)

classification areas, with VC-D

vibration criteria.

The intensive mechanical and

electrical equipment including

vertical circulation lift will be

isolated from the cleanrooms

structure to remove routes

through which plant could

induce unacceptable vibration.

The most sensitive vibration

areas will be located in a

basement to benefit from the

stability offered by the deep

strata mass.
