The earth we abuse and the living things we kill in the end will take their revenge; for, in exploiting their presence we are diminishing our future.

We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.

SWAN: the organization has been working for the
cause of wildlife and nature from last 10 years and
since its inception, it has produced 4 short
documentaries, and 4 more are in the pipeline for future
releasing. SWAN owes all its activities to the sole
efforts of its founding President Mr. Ghazanfar Ali
Langah and his few friends. Some of these activities
are:
1. Inviting young people to understand the importance of
Flora and Fauna by organizing village associations,
trips, public meetings, school intervention programs,
replanting/re-introductory programs, etc. for
environmental protection.
2. Holding Seminars, Conferences and workshops to help
mobilize professionals and general public towards the
understanding of preserving Nature and helping Wildlife
in Pakistan.
3. Publishing regular Newsletter and other printed
advocacy material.
SWAN’S STORY
Would We See The Lost Ones Again? Its Monsoon time again, every drop of rain from the sky has
brought beauty to all Eco zones especially to the Semi-Arid and
Arid zones. All vegetation covers in such a way that the areas
where there was no life is now packed with beauty. Now it is the
high time when the birds and animals are breeding. The migratory
birds are adding color in the sky. We being the custodians of nature
are bound to protect all species to propagate for us and for the
coming generation.
Our Hard Luck! Many species of flora and fauna in Pakistan have
gone extinct and others are rapidly reaching threatened status,
amongst which Sarus Crane has the saddest story. The last of Sarus
Cranes were shot in Sindh Province in 1996 and later the fly way
route between Sindh and Gujrat (India) had lost this beaut. Now the
homeland landscapes are waiting for this beautiful, magnificent and
tallest flying bird on the Earth.
SWAN is making all efforts in collaboration with ICF
(International Crane Foundation Wisconsin USA) and WWF
(Pakistan) to bring back these lost species. Four Species of Cranes,
1.Eurasian Crane, 2.Demoiselle Cranes, 3.Siberian Cranes and
4.Sarus Crane our native to Pakistan. Eurasian and Demoiselle
Cranes are seen,Sarus Crane is threatened and Siberian Crane is
critically endangered. The last viewing of Siberian Cranes was in
year 2002. SWAN under the patronage of MrAshiq Ahmad Khan
has constituted Crane Conservation Group in Balochistan and
Punjab and sooner one will be formed in Sindh Province. These
members are taking this mission through heart and soul and
hopefully we would see the calls and sights of these four
magnificent Crane Species as part of the Landscape of Pakistan.
.

Pakistan is blessed with 5000 to 6000 species including both native and introduced species, 372
species are endemic, and in the world there are 25,000 to 75,000 species. Almost 80% of the
endemics are found in the Northern and Western mountains The Kashmir Himalayas are identified
as a global center of plant diversity. The forest area is 4.3 million hectares that is 4.8% of the total
area of the country. Threats to fauna of Pakistan include deforestation, grazing, agriculture practices
like pesticides and construction of dams and barrages.

TROPHY HUNTING
Trophy Hunting is the legal harvest of the selected individuals in
wildlife population with pre-determined sex and age. Hence it is the
sustainable utilization of the wildlife species without effecting the
healthy population of the concerned species at the same time benefiting
the local community also.
The animals identified as trophies are usually male and off age .
