Managerial Lessons
Decision Making
o When Bhuvan confronts the British Captain, he is given the offer &forced to make a decision on the spot. He is not allowed to take theopinion of his fellow men, but to decide on his own.
o Any Manager must be capable of taking decisions on the ground with an ability to analyze the situation, use the available data & take
sensible but bold decisions.
Enchanting Stakeholders with the Vision
o When Bhuvan meets with the wrath of the village men, he tries hisbest to convince everyone by giving a glimpse of the vision on whatthey can gain by winning the game.
o Every Manager has this critical responsibility to enchant the team &all key stakeholders with the vision of the product. Not everyoneworks with the final goal in mind (& the motivation it provides) and it isup to the Manager to bring this in perspective.

Managerial Lessons (contd.)
Demonstration is Key
o Bhuvan manages to attract the interest of the Villagers into the game,by starting to play around with a Bat in front of them.
o A Manager must be a hands-on person, who if required can get hishands dirty & demonstrate on how the project/task/job should be
conducted. This is the key in increasing the confidence level of theteam.
Identifying the Talent
o Bhuvan builds the cricket team from nowhere, by identifying the talentamong the villagers who have never played the game.
o Not all team members are same with respect to the skills theypossess. It is essential that a Manager is able to identify the talentacross individuals & make the best use of each to the success of theproject.

Dream Big and Define the Goal
o Bhuvan accepts the challenge, as winning meant 3 years of Tax
Free happiness. He also chalked out a strategic plan of action to win
the match.
o A Manager must dream big and formulate a competent & forward-
bound approach to realize the dream.
Overconfidence Destroys
o Capt. Russell & his team members thought that the match would be a
cake walk because they were experienced. But it was their
overconfidence & overestimation that made them loose the match.
o A Manager must never be overconfident & should estimate himself as
well as his team members prudently.

Leadership Lessons
Think of Problems as Opportunities
o Captain Russells challenge to Bhuvan to play the cricket matchwas taken up by him as an opportunity to bring happiness into thelives of his village folk.
Support the Team Members
o Bhuvan backs his team members to the hilt, even when they makemistakes. It is indeed important in any team that the Leader backsthe right person, at the right time, for the right job.
Give Examples to Enhance Understanding
o Bhuvan simplified the challenge of learning cricket by portraying it
as something similar to gilli-danda & catching chickens. Analogieshave that effect & can be powerful in helping tame the seeminglydifficult. Leaders have this task of helping members understandthe task at hand.
