S uniel Shetty is known as oneof the most fitness-consciouspersonalities in Bollywood.

Even though the actor is in his mid-50s, the fitness buff never skips a dayin the gym and is known to be par-ticular about what he eats. However,we recently learnt that the one citythat manages to throw his diet planinto disarray is Delhi. When we caughtup with him during his recent visit tothe capital, the actor told us, “Delhi isknown for its food. Every time I come

to the city, I cheat on my diet. And howcould I not? The capital is one placewhere you have to cheat! You have suchamazing food here, be it chhole or golgappas. Here, bhaturas are twice thesize of what we get in Bombay.” Theactor, however, clarified that cheatingon the diet isn’t as catastrophic as onemight think. He said, “If you don’tcheat, you will never be consciousabout what you should eat and shouldnot. So cheating is essential to stayingfit. Of course, you should only do it oc-

casionally.”The actor also talked

about his new associationwith boxing. He said, “Ihave a connection withboxing because I used tokickbox when I wasyounger. Whatever I amin my career as an actionstar, I owe it to that skill.I felt that getting involvedwith boxing was some-thing I could do. Addi-tionally, these newerleagues can use some sup-port and help. Be it kabad-di, wrestling or boxing, sports that need somepush should be support-ed. I am just happy thatsports apart from cricketare being seen as careeroptions these days.”

Riya tells us, “I was really excited aboutthis trip. When I told my parents about it,first they took it causally, but when theyrealised I was serious about it, theyagreed. I think those were the best 13days of my life. After crossing Manali,my phone didn’t have any network, and I had no contact with my parents. But I needed to do this. I have nevergone anywhere alone except to an NCCcamp when I was in Class IX. I remem-ber I cried a lot back then, but this tripchanged me completely. I only had mybike and the determination to conquerthe highest motorable road – it was an ex-perience of a lifetime for me.”

Though it was a successful journey,Riya says that it wasn’t an easy one. “I havelearnt to ride only recently, so there wereproblems. I would always panic if the roadhad too much traffic, but this trip taughtme to be calm and face hurdles. I wentalong with Sarah Kashyap (an off-road ral-ly racer) and she helped me a lot duringthis trip. I had all my belongings in onlyone bag, had problem breathing and didn’tget to wash my hair for days. But when youthink about achieving something, you do itwithout thinking about anything else,”Riya says.

After returning, her classmates and col-lege authorities congratulated her one herfirst day of second year. She says, “Notmany knew that I was going for this trip, but when I came back, my classmatesstarted cheering for me as soon as I en-tered the class. My principal has alsoasked me to meet her, and I am going to do

that soon.” Riya now plans to go for RaidDe Himalaya – the world’s highest rallyraid – next year. “I used to practice with mybrother in my society during the initialmonths. He would run after me, and thensome people thought that he was myboyfriend and complained to my mother!”she says and adding, “I don’t think femaleriders are in anyway better or worse thanmale riders. Women riders are always ap-preciated more than male riders. I am surethat soon there will be more female bikergroups. Logon ko ab aadat daal leni chahieladkiyon ko road pe bike chalate dekhneki.”

Riya has submitted her entry for LimcaBook of Records and India Book ofRecords, and is hoping to hear back fromthem soon.
