The basic function of the public sector and local
authorities is to work for local development. But
what is the role of the private sector in local
development? And to what extent is the private
sector collaborating with the public sector to
achieve local development?
The answer is summarized in the successful
journey of the Chairman of IPT, the leading
petroleum company in Lebanon, and businessman
Michel Issa with more than forty years of hard
work and experience. Born and raised in Amchit,
Michel Issa started his journey in his hometown
where his work experience constituted a role
model for economic and social development and
an exemplary for the contribution of the private
sector to local development.
The establishment of «Michel Issa Foundation (for Local Development )» (M.I.F.) aimed to achieve
this objective through the implementation of
non-profit projects dedicated to the promotion
of local development as a key factor in building
the capacity of the community, and to cooperate
with specialized partners in order to adopt this
concept and apply it through the execution of

projects with the support of the civil society and
local authorities.
The Foundation launched its first project in
Amchit in collaboration with the Municipality
of Amchit to restore and expand the existing
municipal building. This comes in recognition of
Amchit’s genuine support to Michel Issa. This
support resulted in the success of Michel Issa’s
group of companies not only in Amchit, but also
in Lebanon. The current and upcoming projects
express a modest payback to Amchit, the dearest
town to the heart of Michel Issa, and demonstrate
his sincere love and gratitude to Amchit people.
Proceeding from Amchit, «Michel Issa Foundation (for Local Development )» (M.I.F.) is preparing for the
implementation of diverse projects and initiatives
in Jbeil district and Lebanon in an attempt to
achieve its goals and objectives as stated in its
Registration Notice, aiming to bridge the gap
between the public and the private sectors to
build social capacities and enhance the sense of
belonging.
Founders
«Michel Issa Foundation (for Local Development )» (M.I.F.) was founded on January 14, 2012 under
Registration Notice 71. Its objectives are to spread the concept of local development as a key factor
that enhances the capability of the community, and to collaborate with specialized authorities for the
adoption of this concept through implementing development projects and supporting municipalities
and the civil society.

Objectives

Promote the concept of local development as a key factor that builds capabilities and achieves a balanced welfare among individuals and groups
Strengthen the overall capabilities of the community through the implementation of development projects with the support of local authorities and civil society.
Motivate people to live in their villages and enhance integration in local development projects.
Emphasize the role of administrative decentralization in the local development process, achieve a balanced growth, and cooperate with authorities to plan and implement local development projects
Support the collaboration between different Lebanese regions and the implementation of joint activities and programs with the help of specialized organizations, local authorities and the private sector
Refer to international know-how and expertise in the field of local development and seek mutual agreements with experts in this field
