Calpol Plea
Our school goes through rather a lot of Calpol during the year and the costs seem to be
mounting up. Before the Easter holidays we went through 4 bottles in the last 2 weeks
alone! We are putting out a plea for parents to donate either a bottle of Calpol (new,
unopened & in date), sachets, fast melts or £1 donation. We can then restock our supplies
and keep our children pain-free and in school.
Book Recommendations
We are often asked to help recommend new books suitable for the different year groups, so
here are our top picks of this month! If you have any great ‘Reads’ come and see Mrs
Ruddock so we can share!

Nibbles , By Emma Yarlett

Stand up, Stand out!
This is a story about a little monster called… Nibbles. Nibbles likes to nibble soap, socks and rubber ducks, but his favourite thing to nibble is books! Nibbles nibbles his way right out of this book and into some other favourite fairy tales. He makes a mess in the three bears' house, rescues grandma from the big, bad wolf, and steals a golden goose before he's dropped back into his own book. But can it contain him this time?
Older children will love the havoc Nibbles creates in the fairy tales they know so well, while little readers will adore the cheeky look in his eyes as he tears through the book. The final reveal is another fabulous surprise. Nibbles is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
Meet 25 of the bravest humans of all time! Stand Up, Stand
Out! is filled with the incredible and inspiring stories of rebel
heroes who stood up for what they believed in, spoke out
against injustice, and overcame impossible obstacles.
Portraits created by hand-picked contemporary illustrators
and snappy, compelling text bring these people's
achievements vividly to life, and relate their stories back to
those of young readers today. From world leaders such as
Gandhi and Nelson Mandela to unsung heroes Irena Sendler
(who rescued 2,500 children in World War 2) and Juliane
Koepcke (who survived an airplane crash in the rainforest
aged 17). Each profile concludes with a "What Can You Do?"
section in which the story is related to everyday scenarios
children might encounter, and suggests ways for them to
show bravery or peacefully protest against injustice.

Ultimate Football Heroes Series
KS1 Blackpool Zoo Trip
The whole of KS1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) went on a trip to Blackpool Zoo this
month; it was all very exciting boarding the large coaches and going on a fantastic day out.
All 89 children were amazingly well behaved and had a great day learning about the animals.
Cristiano Ronaldo overcame poverty and childhood illness
to become one of the best football players ever. Escaping
the hot streets of Madeira, Ronaldo first proved himself as a
wonder-kid at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson
before becoming a legend for Real Madrid and Portugal.
This is the story of how the gifted boy became a man, a
team-player and a legend.
This book is part of a series, and includes a wide range of
footballing heroes!
Reception Reception have been observing and researching newts! They have adopted 4 newts which they have even named: Neil, Nora, Norman and Nelly.
Reception have taken up sewing to help improve their fine motor control which has proved to be a big hit and having Basketball lessons with Coach Gunn to improve their gross motor skills.
Year 1 Year 1 have been very busy sorting animals into different groups and learning all about their different habitats before moving on to making their own clay models of their favourit animal.
Year 2
Year 2 have been learning all about Measures - using thermometers to measure the
temperature in class and outside throughout the day and recording their results. They then
answered questions based on the results.
In DT Year 2 have started looking at different ways to make moving pictures linked to the traditional tales we have been reading in class.
Year 3
Year 3 have also been learning about Measure, they have been measuring each other's height in class this week and finding out the average size of the children Year 3.
Year 4 Year 4 have been preparing for their Whitby residential by looking at food chains
The children of Year 4 would like to introduce you to their new class pet ‘Mabel’ the hamster.
The class are taking it in turns to look after Mabel during class and on weekends & holidays,
she’s quite the escape artist apparently.
Year 5
Year 5 were fortunate enough to be the first class to go on their Forest School Day
(courtesy of the fundraising efforts of our wonderful PTFA); however not so fortunate was
the weather they endured, 6 hours of solid rain, but if you ask the Year 5’s they’ll tell you
‘the rain made it more fun’. They had a fantastic time, playing, building shelters & dens,
making tree swings & camp fires and finishing off with marshmallows and hot chocolate!
Definitely a thumps up from Year 5.
Year 6
A huge well done to all our Year 6 children during SATs week. It has been lovely to see
you all gathering for breakfast together in a morning and the sigh of relief on your faces
as the week goes on. You’ve made yourselves, your parents and your school very proud.
