Lesson PlanOn May 19th, 2016, Miss Amalia taught us how to make lesson plans. One thing that I learned about writing objectives was that the objective is not teaching a grammar point. An objective is what I want my students to know and do at the end of the class that they don’t know now.The elements of the lesson plans are:
Warm-up
Introduction
Presentation
Practice
Production
Evaluation
Application
What is a lesson plan?
It’s our map for teaching, if we don’t use it we can get lost. It’s the guide for the teacher that tell us where to go and how to get there.
We have to make sure we scaffold: to go from the easiest to the most difficult.
Problems when not using a lesson plan: AIMLESS WANDERING FAILURE TO ACHIEVE OBJECTIVES NEEDED MATERIALS NOT AVAILABLE POOR CONNECTION WITH PAST LESSONS AND FUTURE
PLANS WASTE OF TIME, EFFORT, MONEY
A Lesson plan gives the
teacher the opportunity to predict possible
problems and therefore consider
solutions.
ReflectionLesson plans should be balanced, activities shouldn’t be too challenging but not too easy. A lesson plan gives us the opportunity to have a “map” for our teaching, if we don’t use it we can get lost and we could have many problems when giving classes. I find it really useful to know how to make lesson plans because my lesson can be very well organized.
PostersOn May 19th, 2016 Miss Amalia gave us some readings
and we had to make some posters in teams, these readings were about what we have to make sure our
lessons have to be successful.
ReflectionI learned a lot of new things that maybe I knew before but I didn’t realice they were necessary for a lesson, for example the pacing, when we are giving a class we should avoid BIG explanations on the topic, we
should use a variety of activities, monitor our students’ performance and pay a lot of attention to
the TIME we sepnd in each activity. We also need to sequence our lesson, we need to SCAFFOLD, simple activities should come before
complex ones, these activities should involve receptive skillsand precede those that involve productive skills and students should study a
grammar structure before trying to use it
Purpose of a lesson plan
The purpose of lesson plans is to: Structure a lesson Organize the content/materials Determine an approach of its delivery Evaluate its application/efectiveness Asess students’ learning
Characteristics of a lesson plan
• Based upon previous knowledge• Appeals to the age level of
students• Motivational techniques• Student-centered, flexible,
complete, interesting, activity based
• Timing, pacing• Necessary materials• Evaluation process• Essential elements of a lesson plan
Lesson plans have 3 functions:
• Identifies what you expect the students to be able to do by the end of the lesson
• Defines what you intend to do to make that possible
• Keeps you focused on target, acts as a record of what the class has done
Objectives should be:
S PECIFICM EASURABLEA TTAINABLER EALISTIC
T IME BOUND
Roles of learning materials• Learning materials:• Set tasks to attain
objectives• Inform learners of tasks
they have to perform• Provide guidance and
practice• Make the teaching effective• Make learning permanent
Parts of a lesson plan
Warm up: Can be a single story or asking students’ questions. We, as teachers should ALWAYS keep the warm-up connected to the lesson that will follow. It should always be connected to my lesson.
Introduction and presentation: It provides interest and motivation to the students, focuses students’ attention on the lesson and its’ purposes. And convinces the students that they will benefit from the lesson.
We can present an introduction:Ask questions to get the ss thinking about the topicShowing picturesTelling a story to show the importance of the topicBonging in “realia” related to the lesson
Practice: Goes from guided practice (where the teacher controls the ss responses) to free practice (where ss choose and create what they want to say).
In the free practice is where we have our objective reached.
Free practice activities can be:Small group discussionsWritten workListening comprehensionGames
Reflection on this class
It’s so important to know how to make a lesson plan because this is your plan for your class, if you don’t follow a plan you can’t know where to go and how to achieve your objectives. What we have learned about Lesson Plans has been so interesting to read about and we have been practicing from writing an objective to planning our practices.
PostersOn June 14th, 2016 we learned what posters are for: To help explain a given research They are large, colorful and simple Fun to make and easy to look at Encourage students to find how to
use maps, photos, cartoons, graphs, etc.
They involve the joint creation of physical product, made by students’ own effort- both intellectual and artistic
Final reflections about Material Development
Reflection The most important thing I learned throughout the
course was the materials are very useful for our classes, they have MANY advantages, material can encourage students and also motivate them to learn. Material can help students discover their own learning and make them understand/comprehend what we are teaching them. Material development is something that is going to help me for life, it’s something that I really enjoyed learning and I can’t wait to apply what I learned on my teaching. Miss Amalia has always been an excellent teacher, and we couldn’t have had a better teacher for this subject. She encourages us to LOVE what we are doing. Material development helped me become creative and to discover skills I didn’t know I had.

Readings
Final presentations We gave our final presentations throughout
the week, each of us gave a different part of our lesson plan, some of my classmates gave the “warm up”, “presentation” or “practice”. We had to develop material for each part of the lesson plan. My final presentation was the “warm up” of my lesson plan, it consisted of an activity in which the students had to be weather reporters, I divided the students in 3 teams and I gave each them a poster of a “weather forecast”.
Reflection Getting to see all my classmates’
presentations was really useful because we could see how they developed their classes and their material. In these final presentations we could see how much we have learned throughout the course and how much this course has helped us in our teaching. All the classes were so creative and excellent and all my classmates adapted it very well. It was hard at first trying to plan a whole 50-min class but then I applied everything I learned and I adapted the lesson I had.
