Introduction
The LL.M. in International Law, Foreign Trade & International Relations is an international postgraduate Law
degree for recent graduates in Law, lawyers who want to improve their law knowledge and practice in an
increasingly global economy scenario and other persons with interest in developing their career in the
international law framework.
The applicants must be able to attend and dedicate one year to the program as a full-time student. It is
also mandatory for all the students to have an outstanding knowledge of the English language, as the whole
master is fully taught in English.
Thinking globally is the aim of the the Master in International Law, Foreign Trade & International Relations.
globalization and the economic crisis is making the practice of law become more international. Nowa-
days, even family businesses are likely to face complex issues involving employment and immigration law,
international trade issues and sophisticated tax and health law regulations. Thus, the program is designed
to appeal to both local and foreign students who wish to obtain a specialist qualification in international
law, international relations and foreign trade. The knowledge of international law is important to graduates
for different reasons: public international law has taken into account the effects of globalization and the ne-
cessity of protecting general and common international interests; the importance of the international com-
munity, and in consequence, of international relations and foreign trade. The Master in International Law
wants to reflect this broader perspective.
In order to practice law with enough guarantees, it is necessary for the lawyer to acquire practical
knowledge and the correct application of it. This learning mechanism can only be acquired in the centres
which are in actual contact with the main local and international law firms. With these simple but at the
same time innovative principles, ISDE launches the LL.M. in International Law Foreign Trade &
International Relations
After more than 50 years in the practice of law, our experience hasdemonstrated that the new law graduates lack the grounding required in theAdvocacy. ISDE noticed that there was not a big difference between the newlaw graduates and those who have complementary studies, since all of themlack practical education to face the clients and their problems.
Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the students who have an internship ina law firm after finishing their studies, quickly acquire the minimum necessaryknowledge to face the legal practice.
For these reasons, we asked ourselves why most of the educational systemswere failing when the professors, organization and methods were excellent. Our conclusion was clear : the formation acquired in a law firm guarantees amore correct professional preparation.
Consequently, it was necessary to reproduce this natural work system of themain law firms, improve it and finally to complement it with an internshipperiod.
The Master in International Law was born with a clear objective: to transmita mechanism of legal reasoning and consequently, a preparation in legalpractice in all subjects, with the aim of gradually aspiring to specialization.
The student will also be instructed in international relations and foreign trade, necessary nowadays with the actual worldwide economic system.

Methodology
ISDE has created a practical and effective system, after severalyears working, based on learning through real cases and usingthe same methodology as a real lawyer. That is the reason whythe education is provided both in the academic headquartersand in the law firms.
Thus what it is learned is the application of the law, thedetection of legal problems, the legal reasoning and theappropriate draft claims. Nevertheless this is only the first phase of the master, since inthe second one the students have an internship in differentprestigious law firms and national or international legalconsultancies.
ISDE believes that the legal practice is not based on fictitiousproblems, but on real cases. This is why we have the bestprofessionals: lawyers, lecturers, and economists, who make upa perfect team and understand each other perfectly.
4. Program Schedule
The 1st phase takes place at our academic headquarters. The method is based on a combination of studyof cases and case study.
Begins in September and ends in February. During this period, the student attends lectures in Madrid.
The study of cases gives students a general approach to thedifferent subjects of the program. At the same time thisparticular method develops students’ agility for legal reasoning.
On the other hand, the case study consists in analyzing, deeplyand precisely, those particular aspects which are especiallyrelevant in international legal practice.
This combined method aims at providing students with a workmethod which will allow them to face any kind of legalproblem in future.
This specific program in International Law LLM is completedby different common subjects that are essential for a lawyerand paying special attention to the international relations andforeign trade.
The 2nd phase begins in March and ends in July Each studentcompletes this phase at the premises of one of thecollaborating entities of the master, under the conditions andrules set by those entities. For this reason, the schedule for thesecond phase is subject to further modifications.
The total duration of the program exceeds 1.500 hours.
