Manufacturing has a long history
in Tampa Bay, where it is a source
of innovation for a wide range
of industries.
The region has the second largest base of manufacturing employment in
Florida, and is home to the global headquarters of Jabil along with more than
2,000 other manufacturing firms employing over 60,000 people. From precise
military specifications to the creation and development of medical devices and
manufacturing in highly regulated industries, our businesses are advancing
modern manufacturing technology and making an impact across the globe.
Tampa Bay’s manufacturing sector also plays a key role in attracting investment
from overseas. Close to 500 foreign-owned companies representing more than
40 nations have established successful operations here.

“innovation that happens [in Hillsborough county] resonates around the world,
and the catalyst is the great environment we have here. employees see
themselves as family, and that says a lot about the people in the city and
the surrounding community.”
– Ryan Sullivan, South Division General Manager, James Hardie
James Hardie, an international leader in fiber cement building product manufacturing, announced plans to expand its existing presence in eastern Hillsborough County in late 2013. Over the next few years, the expansion would create more than 100 new jobs and nearly $80 million in capital investment, making the major manufacturer a huge player in Plant City. The company, which has been in Hillsborough County since 1995, also announced plans to retrofit an existing pipe plant for sheet production, adding 100,000 square feet of space, as well as new machinery and equipment.
