The Olympic Creed
"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life
is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."
This creed actually draws its inspiration from St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians “…run in such a way as to take the prize.” I Cor. 9:24,25
St. Paul makes the point to not lose sight of the most important things of life. Sometimes, we concentrate on the wrong things; we tend to have an inordinate need to demonstrate our worth by performance and appearance - with an insatiable appetite for approval.
In the “Game of Life”, winning really is judged by another standard. Even if we haven’t fought too well and the struggle seems hard… God claims our worth and triumph. Amen. Yes, we discipline ourselves, but not for the sake of a reward. We do so simply out of gratitude, that we’ve been given this life and its prize eternally. So in the meantime… we “run and live” reflecting the goals and character of faith.
That’s why:
We get back up after falling and failing.
We do not return a harsh word, but a gentle one of forgiveness and resolve to be better.
We lend a hand to another in need.
And with sportsmanship and fair play we not only don’t give up – we appreciate this “Game of Life”.
Let the Games begin! Play and Pray

The coins collected in African basket/ widow’s jar for Aug, Sept. and Oct will be used for Operation Christmas Child to help with postage etc. We are still looking for 11 soccer balls or kick balls. They will be deflated to fit in box this is really a "wow" gift. ( Walmart has good prices). In August, we are collecting School supplies. Pencils , pens, crayons, markers, scissors, calculator, coloring books , notebook ( need to fit into shoe box )
No liquid glue, glue sticks are ok. *******Especially need pencil sharpeners**** ( prefer ones with cover so children don't cut fingers) No good to send pencil if they can't sharpen them...every year we run short. End of season items: Flip flops, beach balls, balloons "new" summer t-shirts. Children sizes boys or girls Michaels and Walgreens carry summer toys, crafts that get discounted this time of year.

September 18th is
Volunteer Sunday
At St. Mark
Do you wonder who takes care of setting up for communion?
Would you like to know more about Loaves & Fishes and what St. Mark
does with that program? Do you think about joining choir, but not sure
exactly how much time is involved?
Sunday, September 18th, St. Mark will be hosting our own
Volunteer Sunday and all your volunteer questions will be
answered!
Join us after worship for breakfast and fun information and maybe win a
prize! Mark your calendars for this great event.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Robin Martinson is taking part in The MOST Amazing Race, a Salvation Army event that raises funds to alleviate hunger and homelessness in the Twin Cities.
It’s probably the most fun I’ll have this year, but even more important are the men, women, and children who will find help and hope through this event.
Will you support my participation with a donation to The Salvation Army’s food and housing programs? Your gift helps my team secure a spot in the race and earn time advantages. Plus, it doesn’t take much to have an impact.
All of the race prizes are donated, so 100 percent of the money
you give goes directly to help people in need. Learn more about why I choose to support The Salvation Army through this event on my personal page, where you can also make an online donation.
I hope you’ll partner with me. Thanks for your consideration.
Any size donation is greatly appreciated.
Don’t like giving online? Checks and cash also accepted.

Just $30 gives a secure night of shelter, including meals and a hot shower.
The Salvation Army can stretch your donation to purchase nutritious groceries for about $1 per pound through their food partnerships.
A gift of $90 provides a hot nutritious meal to 50 adults and children, at cost of just $1.79 per meal.
